I signed up for the newsletter a few months ago, thinking by the time August rolled around I would know what I wanted to talk about. Well, I don't. So bear (or is it bare?) with me. Stay with me here. :)

I for one am not totally thrilled that summer is rolling to a slow steady stop. Usually by August I have had it with my house being full of people all day. Had it with entertaining the leagues and nations of children I have to entertain. Had it with the heat. And the extreme electric bill. But this summer has been good. And nice. And they haven't fought too much or been too bratty. And we have had fun. And we have bonded and laughed and played.

Now, we only have a few weeks left of freedom. Vacations are over. I have to start thinking about waking them up at 6:30 am again. Ants are taking over my kitchen, as they do every year at this time...trying to escape the heat just like everyone else.

And just like with the end of anything, I feel a little bit deflated. A little bit like I don't want to let the ease of summer go. A little bit sad that this year Nathan will be going to first grade. And Anna her first year of pre-school. Drew and Mckenna will be in FOURTH! A little bit freaked out that before I know it, Christmas will be here, and the end of another year altogether.

The best thing for me to do right now is to get prepared for the year ahead. (Thank goodness for the PTA sponsored "order your supplies at the end of this school-year so you don't have to rush out and get them the day before school starts next year and we will even pack them all together for you fundraiser") I saved the clothes shopping though. No problem doing that! Old Navy and Sports Chalet, here. we. come.

It is also important for me to hold onto the fun that we had. Look through the pictures I took. Write down the memories before I forget them completely. Savor the vacations, the relaxation of having nothing we had to do. Maybe I'll put a photo I took of us in Mexico above my kitchen sink so that I can look at it every morning as we rush out the door to school.

Two years ago, I did this layout (insert layout-summer 2004) to encapture our entire summer in one fell swoop. I like the idea of layouts like this. All in one, get em done layouts. Small photos of a lot of different things. List or bullet type journaling.

I think I might go do another just like it today. About this summer. And maybe you should too.

Bring on the 7:45am carpool. :)
