Trend Watch: Using Digital Elements in Paper Scrapping
By Tracy Miller

Or, using paper elements in digital scrapping. Depending on your point of view.
I've been noticing a lot of people who call themselves "hybrid scrappers" or, more colorfully and strangely, "biscraptual." Many people are embracing the idea of including some digital techniques in their paper scrapping. It seems a natural progression for many who have become familiar with the software necessary, thanks to their digital cameras. And, as more and more digital scrappers show their work, the more they tempt those of us who use paper and glue to want to duplicate their cool looks.
I have always been intrigued by digital scrapping, but I was reluctant to try it. I didn't want to have to learn a whole new skill set, plus I didn't want to give up the "feel" of scrapping. I love being able to touch my supplies, and run my hands over finished pages. But mixing those cool digital elements with my "traditional" scrapping has been a great compromise for me. I've been loving the flexibility of resizing, recoloring, and printing my own elements and then using those with my beloved supplies.
Supplies
Digital Photo template kit
Digital Embellishment kit
Black cardstock
Circle patterned paper
Chipboard circles
Chipboard words
Black letter stickers
Star rub-on
Black pen
Instructions
1. Open storyboard template from Erica Hernandez's Template Crazy kit . Resize to 12" long. That will make it 6" high.
2. Open photos you want to use and resize accordingly. Move onto storyboard canvas, using the move tool.
3. You can print the photo on your home photo printer or have it printed by a professional. I have it printed as an 8x12 and trim the difference. It is easiest to do this in photo size by changing the canvas size to 8x12 (Image->Resize->Canvas Size). If you change the background color to something other than white, that makes it easy to trim the excess.
4. Open star border strip from Anne Langpap's Overjoyed Embellishment kit. Print 2. Open 3 circle embellishments from the same kit and print those as well. I do that by dragging all of the pieces onto a new canvas and print them at once.
5. Trim patterned paper to 11.75x11.75." Layer over black cardstock.
6. Layer 6x12 storyboard and border strips onto background. Arrange circle accents around page as well.
7. Punch out 3 circles from chipboard coaster set. They should frame the circles on the page.
8. You are going to print circles from Rhonna Farrer's Round and Round Brush Set onto the chipboard circles. Start by measuring the interior of the chipboard circle. Open the appropriate .png file and resize so that the circle is the same size as the chipboard. Repeat with 2 other .png files.
9. Drag all 3 of the files onto a new canvas. Print. Make sure that the circles are the right size to fit on the chipboard circle (I held the paper up to the light so I could see the chipboard through it.). Resize and print again as necessary.
10. Affix chipboard circles over the printed circles using a temporary adhesive. Run same sheet through the printer again. Attach printed circles to layout.
11. Use letter stickers and rub on for the title.
12. Do one line of journaling, approx. .5 x 12." Leave space for chipboard word. Attach to layout and add word. Put additional chipboard word in bottom right.
13. Journal with black pen.
