This past Sept/Oct my husband and I went on an unforgettable trip. We celebrated 10 years of marriage and decided to go into blissful debt and take a trip to numerous cities in Italy. Im so glad we did. We had the most glorious time and totally succeeded in what we wanted to achieve. We made dozens of amazing memories and I (in dutiful scrapbooking form) documented our memories with my camera. Not only did a take literally THOUSANDS of pictures, I also kept every receipt, train and plane ticket, etc. that I found in my hands.

Having 1000s of photos and tons of travel ephemera is a lot to take in. Where do you start or more importantly HOW do you start? I must admit I barely looked at my uploaded photos in depth until this month. It was intimidating sorting through my photos and deciding which ones I wanted to print out. Another problem I found was all the little papers I had collected. Receipts. Ticket stubs. Coasters. Advertisments. What was I going to do with all the ephemera I had collected on our trip? Scrapping my memories of this special time was becoming a very overwhelming task and in classic procrastinator form, I put it off... until this month.

I think I found a way to make a start at preserving this once in a lifetime trip Matt and I made. My solution? I simplified it.

I started with the 7 gypsies trading card revolving holder. This thing is not a big as you might think. The tags that come with the holder are only about 4 x 2.5 inches. In my estimation that was a perfect size for printing photos in masse and from home. It also seemed like the perfect way to save and keep all the ephemera that I had collected from our trip. Instead of making some gigantic album and/or numerous layout pages, I would start with this rolodex. This idea worked perfectly and was soooo fun to put together. I did it in less than a day. The process when by so quickly and it was fun too. Now I have this "snapshot" of our trip and a place to save all the photos, quick recollections and memorabilia Id saved.

Here is an example of a page I have with ephemera from the trip. I saved all our ticket stubs and baggage claims from our plane ride, including various vaparetto, train, bus, and museum tickets. It was neat to be able to staple or clip those itmes to the index card. I wanted them included and using them in this format proved effortless.

I printed out all my pictures at home in a 4x2.5 inch size. I was able to fit 8 per page. Once they were finished printing, I cut them out and wallpapered the photos to the 7 gypsies index cards. It was a little difficult to cut out the little openings (in specific tag/indexcards) that allow the cards to attach to the rolodex, but it was worth the effort. I used labels to identify specific photos.

The rolodex from the top. From this view point you can see that I used 7 gypsies metal tabs (in red, cream, black and silver) and various tabs from the 97% sticker sheets for this project. The black 7 gypsies index cards have a tab on them and I cut out workds from the 97% sticker sheets and used them on the tabs. For journaling, I used Fontwerks stamps as a guide and wrote directly onto the index cards.
