Hi everyone! This week for stamp camp, we are talking about the technique, 'Spotlighting.' There are a few different ways to do this and I am going to show you the 2 that I use most often.
The 1st card is a holiday card using the great holly flourish background stamp from Hero Arts.
First, I stamped the background stamp on my 4"x4" card with blue ink. Then, I cleaned my stamp and choose the spot on the stamp that I wanted to bring focus too...or 'Spotlight' on the card. I colored that portion of my stamp with my markers (see Lesson #3 of Stamp Camp for using Markers on your stamps), huffed on the stamp to re-moisten the ink and stamped it on white cardstock.
Using a circle punch, I punched out the stamped marker image and backed it with a scalloped brown circle. I then placed it on my card where that part of the image overlaid that background stamp below.
Simple and yet a fun way to spotlight portions of your stamps on your projects.
For the 2nd card, I used 'Reverse Spotflighting'. I stamped the large owl on a kraft notecard in brown ink. I also stamped it in brown ink on a green, orange and pink piece of paper. I then punched three circles out of the kraft owl (the one that will be on the top of your card). I then trimmed pieces from the three other colors and placed them underneath the circles on the kraft card to add emphasis to those areas...to spotlight them.
This is a really fun technique and I hope that you have fun playing around with all the different options this week! Be sure to visit the Education Board for a thread for Week 6 to chat about this weeks class.
