Classes : Stamp Camp [Fall 2009]: Enhanced Backgroud Stamping
By Jennifer McGuire
Welcome to Week 2 of our Fall Stamp Camp. This week focuses on creating unique backgrounds using embossing, distress inks and ink blending tools and large stamps. There are three unique techniques shown. All the techniques would be great for creating scrapbook elements, too.
Here is a video showing how to create these cards:
Tone-on-Tone Embossed Background (as shown on the blue card):
1. Start with white cardstock. Ink edges lightly using Distress Ink and Ink Blending Tool. Heat with heatgun to dry the ink. (Distress Ink stays wet longer than most dye inks.)
2. Stamp background with embossing ink. Shake on clear embossing powder and heat.
3. Use Ink Blending Tool to heavily apply the same color Distress Ink over the entire piece. When completely covered, wipe with wet wipe to remove excess ink.
Patterned Emboss and Ink Background (as shown in the brown card):
1. Pick a patterned paper. (I used an old vintage textbook page instead.) Stamp image over it with embossing ink. Emboss with clear embossing powder.
2. Generously apply a dark Distress Ink over the entire piece. The more ink the better, as it will hide the pattern, allowing it only to show through where it is embossed.
3. Use wet wipe to remove excess.
Mutli-Color Emboss and Ink Background (as shown in blue/yellow/green card):
1. Ink white paper with multiple colors of Distress Ink. Cover the whole white piece with color. Heat to dry.
2. Stamp background image with embossing ink. Heat emboss with clear powder.
3. Heavily apply another color of Distress Ink over the whole surface. (A medium to dark color is best.)
4. Wipe away excess with wet wipe.
5. Use a darker shade of Distress Ink (such as Vintage Photo) around the edges of the piece to make it pop.
