When I think of scrap booking today it's hard not to think of florals being some part of the equation. From floral paper, to stickers, to actual flowers to decorative rub-ons and elements, florals are everywhere.
Lately, scallops have been hot. Scalloped papers, frames and accents. Kelli had ingeniously taken the scallop to a new level. Here she took her flowers and cut them in half to create a floral scalloped border around her picture. The bold blue floral scallops look fantastic against the dark black background. As Kelli stated, "They almost look like fairy wings."
Kelli's second layout uses flowers in a totally different way. Flowers are just fine flat, but folded, they can look totally different!
Kelli folded the Heidi Swapp large florals into fourths, stitched and glue dotted them to the page. The Autumn Leaves Techno Pop plastic flowers are actually cut and layered since folding small bits of plastic turned out to be much harder than she expected.
Stitching or glue dots hold the flowers nicely folded and to the page.
Kelli has some other suggestions for uses for that stash of florals that we all know we have!
paint or die them
cut them up and piece them back together
use pop dots under them to give them lift
mix them in with your own hand cut flowers to make that pack of embellishments last longer
use only the petals
embellish the center of the flower with words, brads, photos, jewels.....
Cindy's red and pink floral page takes the flower and makes it a backdrop for her page. Here she has layered the flowers all over her page and then creating her layout on top of this floral base. Using flowers in this way gives your pages dimension and depth.
Flowers don't have to be used in multiples to be a stand out. Wendy has taken the floral and kept it to it's simplest form and shape. On a page that is quite simple the flower adds in that finishing touch to complete the page. Wendy further enhanced the subtlety of the florals by using plastic flowers in a color that almost blends in with her page rather than boldly stands out.
Digital pages are not left in the dust with regards to florals. Here, I have used both floral paper and floral elements on my page. The green paper serves as a nature-inspired background for which to place my floral garden. I wanted the flowers to be placed with a sense of playfulness to enhance the garden-like qualities of my pages. It feels almost like a little floral flower bed on my page.
Lastly Shannon has used her flowers on a masculine page. With two boys she doesn't get to use flowers too much. By using funky flowers she can make it work on a boy's layout much easier. On this layout she let patterned paper do all the hard work for her by cutting the large red flowers out of Love, Elsie patterned paper. By using pop dots as adhesive, and turning up the petals a bit they really pop off the page. She used a few flowers that had a straight edge and some that were full to keep it from looking too uniform around the photo.
