Classes : Celebrate the Seasons - August 2009
By Nichol Magouirk
Welcome into the 8th month of Celebrate the Seasons here at Two Peas!
For the August seasonal layout, I chose to document something our family does during the late summer: take a mini vacation. We live just a state away from Colorado and we spend lots of time there when we just want to get away for a few days. This month's sketch has room for up to 10 photos. You can substitute a journaling block in place of a photo or even use a larger photo instead of the smaller ones if that works better for your photos. Please see the sketch and the PDF handout for photo sizes and also for all the sizes of the papers I used in this layout.

I looked and looked for the perfect accent for my layout and wasn't having much luck. I came across these cool "Aztec" borders for the Silhouette and it just clicked! Not only do they add color and interest to my layout, they compliment the theme perfectly. This month your challenge is to use a border on your layout. There are so many borders to choose from: sticker & rub-on borders, patterned paper or cardstock borders, create a border of accents, use a border punch or die cut machine to create your own, etc.
In addition to the challenge to incorporate a border into your August layout, consider trying a Thinking Inking technique from Jennifer McGuire's class. I know that I've learned so many fun new techniques following along with that class. I thought it would be fun to use some of what I learned for a layout. :) I painted some die cut letters that I cut from Ranger Sticky Back Canvas with Ranger Crackle Paints. The effect coordinated perfectly with the theme of my page!
To participate:
Create a 1 or 2 page layout using some sort of texture.
Layout can Digital, Traditional or a Hybrid. :)
You are not required to use the sketch.
You may scrap any theme/holiday but try to stick to a summer celebration or activity (whatever says "vacation", "summer" or "August" to you or your family. Family birthday's and celebrations (i.e. anniversaries, reunions, etc. are all good).
Submit your layout by uploading to the gallery by September 4, 2009 11:59 EST. Don't forget to click the box next to this class (Celebrate the Seasons August 2009).
I will pick a winner randomly from all the submissions to win a Gift Certificate to Two Peas and post the winner on the Education Board on September 5th. For every submission to this class you will earn a badge. Fun!
Don't forget to stop by the Education board to chat and share links to your layouts!
