Project - Kristina's Picks 3/19/10 (she loves purple)
I picked this Poppy Seed collection from K & Company as one of my favorites this week… I love the hand-drawn designs and fun imagery. Leaves and birds and other images are included in this collection. I love the handwritten and drawn papers. The colors are pretty, teal, greens, blues and purples. There are quite a few purple collections out there this winter/spring, and this one was my favorite of them.

I told you in last week's video that I was going to try the Tattered Angels mist. I had not used a lot of the misting products prior to this, other than a couple of halloween projects last year. I wanted to see what this was all about. I think for me, using the mist as a color amplifier is easiest. I like tone on tone patterns, so using the same colored mist on a paper works out great for me. In this layout I sprayed purple around where I knew I was going to put the photo, so the color seemed more intense around it.
I also picked the calendar collection papers from Creative Cafe. I used a sheet from this collection the other day on a layout, and cut a piece of it to use here on this layout. I like it as a whole background, or in part, to reflect that the layout is about the ‘everyday’. It comes in many different colors and patterns, like a whole calendar page on 12x12. In this layout I used just a piece of it, to reflect that the subject of this layout was a piece of the whole year, an everyday thing. I also knew I was going to use it for my journaling. I had thought to spray mist on it to bring in more purple, but left it as it was.
I also picked another American Crafts Thicker Sticker, the Rainboots sticker. Its a great handwriting font, a cursive font and although it is puffy, it doesn't actually cause there to be a lot of bulk on your page.
There are a few other picks that I have in my collection this week, but I didn't use on this layout. The Love Me Do collection from My Minds Eye is fun collection with funky birds, hearts and hot air balloons. The bright teal combined with red and yellow makes for a really funky collection.

For this layout, I cut out one of the handwritten words and swirly lines from the whole page as just as strip. I wanted to use the other papers as my base, but really wanted that word ‘happy’ in the composition. I also hand-cut out the black border strip. The circles are cut from another paper in the collection, some have glitter, all of them are patterned in some way, not solid in color. I wanted to add the additional colors to the layout and this seemed the best way without overloading the layout with embellishments. Though this collection is very rich in embellishments and the possibilities seem endless.
