Journalling reads: “My grandfather on his violin, his mate on the piano. Two Brits in post-war, communist East Germany on special tourist visas. Behind the Iron Curtain. In a pub. Playing ‘God Save the Queen’. It's amazing they weren't shot on the spot.”

One day, I'm going to have to explain to my children what the Iron Curtain was. Now there's a thought…
