Project - Effer Last Scrapper Standing Dare #2 - 13

Title: 13
Artist: Julie Ann Shahin, the one who peeks at her Christmas presents and can't wait til Wednesday to upload her LSS lo's

Quote: Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers, blossoming even as we gaze. (Sunrise, Sunset) Fiddler on the Roof

About this layout: I had several ideas for a theme for this layout. I had been thinking alot recently about what I was like at 13 because my nieces are at that age now. I went up into our attic, and scrummaged around until I found my diary from 1983-1985.

Journaling: Thirteen was a magical year for me. It was the year that I transformed from an awkward geek to a more stylish geek. Thirteen was a major turning point in my life. My father was in his second year in amateur photography when my parents sent photos of me to Barbizon Modeling School. I remember the day a postcard arrived at our home saying someone referred me as a possible student. My parents thought it would be a worth-while experience for me to learn from this “finishing school.” The photos of my perm gone bad, my lack of confidence, and a smile full of braces captured me at my most awkward stage. I think I was a bit surprised my parents would actually induldge in this manner. One day my mother pointed out a woman in Zayre’s: who lacked a bra and had on too much makeup such as bright blue eye-shadow and bright pink circles on her cheeks. “That is why I’m sending you to modeling school so you don’t look like that.” I chose not to pursue a modeling career after finishing my Barbizon education. I saw the competitiveness and cattiness behind the scenes. I also knew beauty was more than skin deep and wanted to be seen as a whole person. Thirteen was also the year that a friend encouraged me to try out for junior high cheerleading, and I made the squad. I surprised even myself with that feat as someone afraid of her own voice. Thirteen was the year I learned that believing in myself was worthwhile. I learned that a little bit of knowledge goes a long way. I learned I could break out of my shell, and go beyond other’s expectations. Thirteen was definitely a defining year in my life.

Excerpt #1 from my old diary: Three days ago the cheerleaders met at Olympic Footwear to buy shoes and shirts. It has just sunk in that I am a cheerleader! Of course, it's my first year and I'll need lots of practice!!

Excerpt #2 from my old diary: Things I Love.
Country living, sunrise, my sister, rain, sunsets, Thursday nights on TV, boys, flute, French, my writing, pink and blue, beauty, cute lovable soft cats.
