From what I've been able to figure out, "heavy handed" is the only way to go with this inked-flower technique. Yours is perfect! I also like the way the flower embellishment echoes the flower in the patterned paper; it's a nice design element.

This card was made for Thinking Inking Challenge using alcohol inks on embellishments. I used inks on the paper flower as well as the button.
