thanks Anne - maybe I will try this one again and work on changing my settings. I usually use this window in the morning, because the afternoon light is much more intense & direct, but today it was cloudy and the light was very inconsistant. I have several shots that I liked because of the way the light fell on his face and the shadows, but i was not at 45 degrees from him, I was facing him and the light was coming in from the side. My only other available subject today was the baby & she was sleeping...at least maybe she would have stayed still.

Oh my gosh, his poor, red eyes! Ahh, summertime, LOL.

I know this was probably really hard with a little one that just won't look where you need them to. But, even knowing that, I'll CC you.

First of all, re. your settings - I think you need to bump that ISO up there! There's no reason to shoot at 200 indoors. The only time you would use such a low ISO indoors is if you have massive amounts of light streaming in. As a result of such a low ISO, your shutter speeds are way low. With a wiggly kid, they need to be at a minimum of 1/160, but even that is probably too low. I try for 1/200 or 1/250.

You also ended up with a really underexposed shot. I'm guessing that what is going on with his skin in the edited version is due to a combination of mostly having to raise the exposure so much in post and perhaps a bit of oversharpening.

Also, in both of them he seems to be turned away from the light. Again, I know it's so hard to get one this age to cooperate. I've plunked them down on a stool so that there's not anywhere they can really go, and then put something funny on top of my camera or my head (and pretended it was going to fall off as I leaned over....&quot;Oh no! Here it goes....OH NO!&quot; while laughing) to get them look my direction - which is the direction of the light.

<br>
I really like the lighting in the second shot, though. Even though he's scrunching up his face, the shadows/light still make this a fun shot!

hey all - sorry this is late, life has been busy. the first shot is my edit, the second is SOOC, and I added another SOOC that shows the light a little better, but coop was a little uncooperative (shocker there!)These were all taken at about 3 in the afternoon, I used my “reflector” and tried to place myself at a 45 degree angle, but I did not have much space to work with. All shot with my pentax 50-200 lens. BTW, Coop had been swimming all day, so I did my best to take some of the red out of his eyes & skin (but a quick edit). Thanks for any CC.
