Galleries: Stamping

This month the challenge theme at Craft a Scene is ‘Troubled Skies’, this is my first card. The scene is 8.5 x 5.5 inches on glossy cardstock, and coloured with grey and black dye inks. I wanted to ink of the Cloud with Lightning stamp and stamped it twice, I had intended to stamp it more at different heights, but wasn't careful enough, so the two impressions are a little bit too similar to my liking. The sky was filled out with the Cloud Cumulus stamp. I also wanted to use this great train stamp (I have a thing for train stamps) and thought it would look good under this troubled sky. All the stamping was done with Archival Jet Black ink. The mountains looks large in the distance, but are actually stamped with a small stamp, stamped repeatedly, no masking necessary, since the Stampscapes stamps blend so nicely together. I stamped some pine trees in the distance, using first and second generation stamping, and wiping off the base of the stamp before stamping, so that it looks like the trees are standing in mist.

I started with three shades of grey inks, lightest shade first, applying them with a Colorbox Stylus tool. You could do a scene like this using only black ink, but I find that it is easier to start with light grey, especially if you have a lot of open areas, as I did here. ?I finished with quite a lot of black ink, especially around the edges and in areas I wanted to be dark. Finally, highlights were added with a white gel pen and mist and shine by dry brushing white ink onto the scene. TFL!
