Project - The S Word

I don't know if this will seem like a funny story to you, but it does to me! My cute 100 year old Mom told me this story the other day, about one of the first times she met her new in-laws back in 1939.
You first have to understand the family dynamics and backstory. It was 1939, and my parents were newly married. They came to Ogden, Utah from Vale, Oregon to visit my Dad’s parents, Grandma and Grandpa Clark. Grandma was a proper little thing, never a hair out of place, baker of bread, teacher of Doctrine in the Mormon Sunday School. Grandma was not known for being ‘casual’. I never saw her in a pair of slacks, even in her own home.
Mom and Dad piled into Grandpa’s Chevy, along with Grandma and Grandpa and Dad’s sister Louise, for a drive to Salt Lake City for some sightseeing. Girls in the back, boys in the front. Somewhere along the route, a small disagreement popped up. Suddenly, Grandma let fly with the “S word”! Mom was so shocked she didn’t know what to do or even where to look. Utter silence. She doesn’t really remember anything else from that particular visit. None of us ever heard our proper Grandma ever say that word again. But she might have. You just never know!
