I was thrilled to be asked if I'd like to make a couple of cards for the Holiday Cardmaking Weekends Event here at Two Peas to go along with Nichol Magouirk's theme of cards that hold money and/or gift cards.

For my first card I made a “Christmas Money Tree”. (Who says money doesn't grow on trees). ;) I started by stamping Hero Arts Flourish Pine background stamp on light blue cardstock for a tone-on-tone effect. I love how this adds interest without making things look too busy. I cut the pieces of paper for my tree, starting at the bottom branch, cutting it so it would be the same size as my folded $20. I then cut the other branches so they would gradually get smaller. The star was cut with my Silhouette SD and all the pieces of the tree were inked up with distress inks. I adhered all the pieces, making sure to leave room on either edge of the bottom branch for mini paper clips to fit around.

For my second card I just had to use this cute little ‘Do Not Open…’ stamp from Hero Arts. I think it goes perfectly with the gift card theme. I started by stamping the Hero Arts Stunning Snowflakes background stamp on kraft cardstock. I cut out the pink gift card envelop with my Silhouette SD, adhered it together, and stamped Hero Arts Magical Background stamp on it. I stamped the ‘Do Not Open’ image onto the envelop and paper pieced another copy over it before adhering the envelop to my card. Finally, I tied some ribbon around the gift card to make it easy to take out of the envelop and add interest. Thanks for looking!
