Project - Connecting with Creativity: Shadowbox

This is for our final week in the Connecting with Creativity series [twopeasinabucket.com]. The theme is "remembering" and I'm playing along with a couple projects. This is a shadowbox dedicated to preserving the memory of my grandfather's service in WWII. He received a purple heart medal after having been wounded in the head by a gunshot (had he been an inch taller he would have died - it grazed the top of his head). My grandfather is alive today...almost 90 years old!

One way I can connect with others, especially my family, is by collecting the stories of previous generations and preserving them well, in addition to being a good steward of precious items entrusted to me. I don't know about you, but my hobby has led me to be given this role in my family, and it's one I gladly take on. My relatives have given me special items like this, or have named me 'family photographer' because I am the 'scrapbooker' in our family. I am honored to be given the privilege of working with these special items and that my family trusts me with them.

I was disappointed I wasn't able to get the military photo of my grandfather to put in the frame before sharing it with you today, but eventually I will replace the photo I have now with that one. I did print out a photo of him as a young man not long after the war was over. Within the shadowbox I've also included the documents from this time. I've typed out his story and tucked it within an envelope. I used Tim Holtz clocks [twopeasinabucket.com] and buttons [twopeasinabucket.com] to reinforce the antique feel of the collage, as well as ribbon and a flag I had acquired from a local craft store.

Oh I love this! What a great project. How special to have these treasures of your grandfather. Even more special he is still here to tell you his stories and memories. TFS

This is wonderful and so meaningful. How great that you have made such a display, so his medal can honored. Great object placement and I love the ribbon.
