My mother, Polly Greenberg Sarasohn, worked for the Oak Park School District beginning in the late 1950s. In addition to being secretary to the junior high school principal, she chaired the health committee that first brought the Salk polio vaccine to the school district in 1959. This was one of the most important accomplishments in her life - born Canadian, she was proud of becoming an American citizen and worked tirelessly for her community until she succumbed to leukemia in 1979, two years after she had to quit her job due to declining health. She continues to inspire me to this day with her role modeling of grace under pressure, hard work, and commitment to her family and her community. The 9 to 5 collection is totally in-synch with the nostalgic photos of Polly and her work colleagues, shown throughout this book.
