Project - Seasonal Layouts : Moments in Motherhood

For the first time ever I used my handwriting on one of my digital pages! Well, this isn't my true everyday handwriting, but it is my uncensored, unfiltered, pour-your-heart-out-and-don't-stop handwriting. These are some of my feelings on motherhood but of course, like most of us, I could probably do a whole book and not just a layout to express everything that being a mother encompasses in my life.

Here's what I wrote in case you can't understand my sloppy uncensored version:

"Some of my favorite moments in motherhood are these. You know, those seemingly 'normal' moments. When nothing is really going on except that you are looking at me with your eyes full of love and pouring out all your loving on me. And I am melting. It is in these special times that I find myself squeezing you a little tighter and holding you a little longer as if doing so would keep you from growing so fast. I know that what I feel is not unique and that many moms feel the same way, but yet I find myself believing that no mother has ever loved her child more than I love you. So much of me is invested in you that I find myself feeling vulnerable and fragile. Sometimes I drown myself in the thoughts of something ever happening to you and I begin to torture myself with the thoughts of living in a world where you do not exist and just the very thought of it makes me lose my breath for a split second. You are ingrained in me like a vital substance and the possibility of ever losing you weighs on me constantly. It's not that I'm a pessimist. The problem is that sometimes -- many times -- I think you are just too good to be true."

Here's how to do this using Photoshop CS2 (steps may vary in other software:

(1) First, print out a draft version of the photo that you will be placing your journaling over.

(2) Use a lightbox and place your photo on the lightbox with another paper over it. Or, if you don't have a lightbox you can use a clear sheet of vellum. Write your journaling on the blank paper (or vellum) not the one with the photo.

(3) Scan your writing paper into your photo editing software. Using the Magic Wand Tool, select your white background and then click Delete to erase it. Now, go to Image > Adjustment > Brightness/Contrast and drag the sliders so that your journaling turns to white.

(4) Place this writing over your photo in your digital page and print!
