Project - Shape Up Your Scrapbooking: by the sea
I really really love using die cuts, especially die cut shapes created with my Cameo. There are just so many options! I played around with product, including a few new bits from the Glitz Designs Unchartered Waters collection. This layout uses die cut shapes three different ways.
There is a heart die cut shaped background used to help mat the title work, which is a die cut used as is: cut from patterned paper and placed on more patterned paper. But I have to confess…I wanted to add some fun vellum to the “sea” and messed up. I tell you I mess up often, right? Well, there was no going back. So instead of scratching the whole title I freehand cut waves from another piece of paper and put them in the “sea”. I really think it looks better that way and it's something I wouldn't have thought to do had I not messed up ;)
I used a second die cut shape to create a mask for misting the waves onto the base of the layout. I misted heavier on the left side and then lighter as I went across. Sewing a few of the wave lines helped to give some detail to the misted shape and doubled as journaling lines. Because the layout had a softer, dreamy feel I wrote in pencil.
The third die cut use was the anchor shapes along the bottom. I cut out three, but one decided not to cut all the way so I just stapled it back in place. The negative space from the anchor shapes were backed with paper and a rectangle sewn around them.
This layout had a few fun spots to cluster so I did that with a variety of embellishments, including one of the new Glitz Designs garlands cut apart. Lots of blues and greens gave it an ocean feel so I offset a bit of that with a bit of peachy pink and few touches of yellow.
I hope this has inspired you to use some die cuts :) thanks for looking!
