In German, there is only one word for this season: Herbst.
To me, autumn sounds more poetic than fall - that is why I prefer it. Autumn is my favorite time of the year - everythings gets calmer, slowlier, less hectic and nature is showing its most beautiful colors. I enjoy the warm sunbeams on my face, snuggling on the couch, reading a book in front of the fireplace..

Of course, the first thing that came into my mind when hearing August´s ‘fall’ theme was: leaves! There are a lot of gorgeous fall products out there, but I knew I wanted to create my own leaves.
I draw different shapes of leaves on a piece of vellum (American Crafts)and draw lines and doodles into them. Afterwards I colored the backside of the vellum with markers and cut the leaves out.
I used a mask (Studio Calico) and sprays (Studio Calico, October Afternoon) to create the background. I used only scraps of patterned paper (Amy Tangerine, Allison Kreft for Webster´s Pages) to highlight certain parts of the page.
I added a few arrows, using rub-ons (Pink Paislee) and a die-cut (Dear Lizzy) as a stencil. The abstract flowers on both sides of the page were created with a die-cut (Dear Lizzy) as well. I used markers to color them.
I decided to write the title for the layout myself, I am practicing calligraphy at the moment, so I thought I should give my ‘fake calligraphy’ (drawing letters with a marker) a try. I wrote ‘autumn’ on a piece of vellum and stitched it onto the paper, I also stitched the leaves onto the paper.

I really like the way the layout turned out, althought it is a bit ‘messier’ than I imagined it in first place ;-)
