I love to use machine stitching to attach embellishments securely to my layouts and projects.
For this layout, I stitched the velvet scalloped ribbon borders in place, stitched the ribbon "sun" to the cardstock and stitched the journaling strip to the layout.
These are all older photos I took when I had a film SLR camera and I had taken both black and white and color photos. I ended up wanting to use just this one color photo with the rest being black and white. To emphasize the color photo and rain/umbrella theme I used a circle cutter (Coluzzle) to cut circles from several different papers and cardstocks and then tucked them halfway under the photo to create the rainbow.
The cloud and raindrops were cut using a digital download design from Quickutz for the Silhouette. Because I was cutting them from a thicker paper (glitter Doodlebug paper) I left the cutting mat in the machine and repeated the cut several times before removing the cutting mat from the Silhouette. Before adhering the die cuts I added some adhesive to my layout and randomly added the American Crafts ribbon to the adhesive in a circle shape. Then I machine stitched the ribbon in place to secure. Then I adhered the die cuts to the layout with pop dots.
The umbrella is another digital download design from Quickutz for Silhouette. I ungrouped the images in the Silhouette software and cut each individual piece out using different colors of paper/cardstock and then assembled the die cut to my layout, adhering the umbrella with pop dots.
