Project - Product Focus: Studio Calico: School Rules by Shannon Tidwell posted 02/27/12 Galleries: Scrapbooking, Stamping, Altered Projects I love notebooks. I love making lists. If I could only get them all checked off! This Woodgrain Embossed 4x8 Journal Kit by Studio Calico was so fun and easy to make. You get a the embossed cover, and chipboard back and grid patterned paper for the inside. The inside papers are already bound, so you don't have to worry about how to keep them together. They are glued at the spine for easy removal one by one. First, I decided to leave the cover a raw chipboard. I like the look…and dislike the mess of painting.:) Instead of using just one strip of Fabrips to bind the book together I used several smaller strips and put them on horizontally instead of vertically on the spine. I didn't embellish too heavily because I wanted what I put on to stay on. I stamped an owl image on to a sheet of Fabrips and cut it out. Then applied it to the cover. I added a couple stickers and die cuts to dress up the owl. The end of the cover is wrapped with gray/white twine. Since this will probably end up as a teacher's gift I wanted to include a pencil. To dress it up I used my craft knife to cut a couple slits in the mini canvas triangle, then threaded the pencil through. It was a snug fit so I didn't need to add any extra adhesive. I did tie some black/white twine around the top of the pencil for a little extra flair. I also added a bee to the flag. |
