Project - Right About Now by Fevvers posted 04/01/11 at 11:49 PM Galleries: Scrapbooking, Stamping The problem with most scrapbooking products is that as addictive as they are, they never LAST -- but not so with stamps! They just keep going and going, and can be tailored to fit each scrapper's individual style. Such is the case with this layout, which incorporates a bunch of stamps, used in a variety of ways. The first block (detail pic 1) is about wanting to travel, and so I added a little airplane and sewed a jetstream of sorts. Combining sewing with stamps always adds some fun (and texture) to a page. That block also makes use of a technique I don't use often enough, but that I love -- embossing. I stamped the number one using watermark ink, covered it with embossing powder, tapped off the excess, and used a heat gun. I save catalogs specifically to use while embossing, as the crease in the catalog captures the excess embossing powder, and makes it easy to return the powder back to its bottle without wasting any. The third block (detail pic 2) is related to summer vacation, so I began by stamping one corner with some sunshine (a JBS seal stamp). This block also incorporates embossing, but this time, I used clear embossing powder with a ledger design. After applying heat and waiting a moment for the design to cool, I misted over the square, and dabbed away any excess. In doing so, the ledger design beneath became apparent. I added paint over it as well in some areas, and I wiped some away to reveal the embossed surface below. I love the look! The fourth block (detail pic 3) relates to my teaching, so I used school-related stamps. Text stamps can be tricky to use if you're picky about precision, but in this case, precision wasn't my goal. Though I stamped the initial saying using a bold red dye ink, the repeated design on the backdrop wasn't created using ink. I used mist instead! I discovered that spraying white mist over a stamp, and then stamping with it, creates an indistinct but distinctly awesome look! The fifth block (detail pic 4) repeats a design twice. I stamped the background with red, cleaned the stamp, shifted the position slightly, and then stamped again using yellow. This layered look always reminds me of watching 3D movies without wearing the special glasses. Funky. In the sixth block (detail pic 5), a small number stamp creates a series of sixes to fill in the space between the flowers, and in the eighth block (detail pic 4), I repeated a number eight to create a kind of border at the top of the block. The ninth block (detail pic 6) features a large embossed butterfly. This is definitely my favorite block, as it is shiny and oh-so-pretty! Thanks for looking! |
