Project - Freshman Initiation: Studio Calico (Product Focus) by Fevvers posted 10/31/11 Galleries: Scrapbooking I am a huge fan of all things mist-related, and Mister Huey's Color Mists from Studio Calico have long been part of my arsenal. On this page, I used some of the new colors, including Overdue, Heirloom Blue, Plum Thumb, and Gable Green, along with some of the accents from the new collections. Since the page is about my daughter's initiation into her freshman class, I thought that butterflies would be the perfect symbol, as they represent change and transformation. On the far left, I created the flurry of butterflies by cutting half a sheet of butterfly stickers, removing the butterflies (and saving them as a cluster to be used on a future layout), placing the sheet (with its negative spaces) on the layout, and misting over it with Overdue mist. The two misted strips had more to do with serendipity than they did with any deliberate intent on my part. Whenever I use a new mist color, I always test it, and that is just what I did with the Mister Huey's Color Mists. I played a bit with color blocking, and when I saw the resulting “test” sheet, I knew that it would look pretty cool cut into strips, so that is exactly what I did here. I sewed over them for a bit of added texture. The large butterfly to the right was created using the Studio Calico butterfly masks, which come in varying sizes in a single set. I loved the idea of setting apart a large butterfly from the smaller ones to the left, just as I set apart my daughter from the other freshmen. I placed the largest butterfly on the cardstock and misted over it using Heirloom Blue. Before lifting up the mask, I lightly pressed a paper towel over the area, to absorb excess ink. Then I placed a smaller butterfly in the center of the larger, negative space, and lightly misted over it with Overdue. I just can't get over these colors! I printed the journaling on a few sheets of the Studio Calico Scrap Pads, and I strung together the title numbers (taken from the die-cut tags set) with a bit of twine. Thanks for looking! |
