Project - NSD 4 PM Layout: It's On (Wide Washi Tape)
by Jill Sprott
As any washi tape connoisseur will tell you, the stuff is pretty versatile, and oh-so-collectable. It's fun to admire, but even more fun to use. Recently, wide washi tape has arrived on the scene, and the fact that it is double the size of a typical roll of washi tape means that it offers even more coverage and makes more of an impact on the page.
I've had my eye on the Freckled Fawn neon wide washi tape for a while, and when I finally got my hands on some, I was happily surprised by its texture, which reminds me a bit of masking tape. Neon colors can be tricky to use, since they make quite an impact, but worked into a layout in small bits and pieces, they can add some serious color pop to a page without being overwhelming. That's the approach I took to this layout, where I backed a die-cut sheet of Easter eggs with strips of washi tape, patterned paper, and pop dots. I love how the neon pink areas stand out on the page.
The wider the washi, the wider the coverage – a single strip not only backed an entire egg, but it also covered a wood veneer arrow, which directs the eye to the egg in my daughter's hand as well as to the title, which I chose for its similarity to the bright pink eggs.
I'm definitely on board with wide washi!
Thanks for looking!
