How would you interpret the challenge In Costume? Looking through my photo library, I could find a performer's costume snapped on stage, a Santa costume for a baby's first Christmas, dressing up for a themed costume party, costumes donned for the class float in the homecoming parade and some mis-matched costumed antics backstage between theatre performances. And of course, there's the obvious Halloween!

The five examples I've given here vary in quality, so that means there is something to take away about what makes an effective costume photo and what is simply a snapshot. The first three images are nicer than the final two, and images one and three both capture movement with a very minimal background. All of the first three images include brighter colours on the costume than the rest of the scene, which helps the subject stand out. The lack of colour contrast and busy background makes the fourth photo less lovely and the fifth photo, although funny to all of us at the time, is lacking in colour accuracy and composition. But on the plus side, it's the kind of picture that just screams to be scrapbooked because hey - there MUST be a story there, right?
