This week's challenge is a classic: black and white! There are so many different options for black and white photography. Choose one that works for you:

*Shoot actual black and white film this week. Be still my heart. Have them printed with a matte finish. Trust me.

*Use your digital camera in the black and white setting so you're not actually shooting colour. Have you ever tried this to see the quality of the black and white images from your current camera?

*Take a colour image and convert it to black and white in processing. You can do this in pretty much any photo editor - iPhoto, Picasa, Photoshop/PSE, picnik.com (a free online photo edtor) and so forth. Look for options like 'desaturate', 'monochrome', 'greyscale' or just plain old 'black and white' as a command.

*Use a black and white conversion action in Photoshop or PSE to run a more intricate transition.

If you choose either processing option, try the same processing on several different images to get an idea of how that look works on a range of images, from scenery to people to animals.
