Challenge - Journaling Challenge: Let Your Pet Do the Talking
by Jill Sprott
Many of us with furbabies have lots of photos of them, and when it comes to making layouts about them, we often talk about our pets. What would it be like, however, to speak as them? Thus, this week's journaling challenge is sure to be a fun one: journal in the voice of one (or more) of your pets!
A few weeks ago, when I was outside photographing a layout, I turned around to find that our outdoor cat, Molly, had discovered a ladder that my husband had left out, and was rubbing herself against it blissfully. I started snapping away with my camera, cracking up the whole time.
I looked forward to scrapping these photos, but really, there wasn't much of a story there to be found. What could I say? “Molly is so cute! She really seemed to enjoy rubbing herself against the ladder.” Done. When I sat down to create this layout, however, I wondered what she was thinking, and then I decided to journal from her (imagined) perspective. Now there's a story!
I hand-cut a few of the speech bubbles from a sheet of Amy Tangerine Ready Set Go patterned paper (called “Think Good Thoughts,” incidentally), and printed my journaling – or rather, the cat's journaling – on those, backing them with pop dots before adding them to the layout. I used the same approach to printing the journaling as I would with label stickers [twopeasinabucket.typepad.com], printing the journaling on a sheet of 8.5“ x 11” paper, affixing the word bubbles over each printed section using double-sided tape, and then running the whole sheet through the printer once more.
I would love it if you would play along with the challenge this week! I know I'll get a kick out of reading journaling from the cat, dog, or guinea pig's point of view. In addition to providing entertainment for me, there's another a perk to this challenge: upload your layout by next Friday for your chance to win a $5 gift certificate to the Two Peas store! Don't forget to check the challenge checkbox during uploading. The winner will be announced on the Two Peas blog next Saturday.
I can't wait to see your layouts! Good luck!
