Morning and Happy Birthday again Ms Maggie

Chris - totally love the cards. Does your SU rep charge you for the parties? I was invited to one but she was asking $15 a person to make 3 cards. I didn't go - I can't see paying that much for them to show you once how to make the card and then you are on your own.

This week I am working on getting my binders purged and up to date. I used to use them all the time but the last 2 years I have ignored everything and now that I am coming out of my depressed funk - I got to get myself organized. I guess taking almost 2 hours to find a piece of paper that I needed kicked me in the butt.

Nothing else going on. Missing and Non-missing Rakers - please check in and let us know how life is treating you.

Denise...yes she does. We made two of each design for $15. It was the first time she did it that way. We usually pay $10 to make three cards. She has everything cut for us and we then use all her tools to do them.

I figure that it's a way to get ideas and we're paying for her time and all materials.

We are also doing a Stamp Camp in November. That cost us $25 to make 10 cards..she will have door prizes etc that day also.

Good morning girls,

Denise & Chris..... A few years ago I "won" a spot at a SU show or whatever. The consultant was running a regular club type thing, I forget all the details. Anyway, we made like 4-6 cards but they all looked so similar. We had to cut out all our own stuff & she didn't have enough supplies so we had to wait around while people used stamps, punches, etc. it was at her house & way cramped & she was wearing some kind of baggy shirt & sweats or something.... Not professional IMO & not impressed. Maybe I should look for a rep here. Might be good way to get to know some people.

Happy birthday Maggie!!

Alicia - are you liking Texas and the military life as well as becoming an instant mommy! Glad to see you are back with some of your supplies. I would go crazy if I had to pack mine up and store them. Can you not make a small crafting area in any room or even the garage or back porch? Would it be too hot as it is in Florida?

Alicia...I would look around for a SU rep~~ Ours is great! Tons of room...we cut NOTHING...now we might have to use her big shot and some punches, but there's always enough ink etc. And if you make a mistake, she'll cut you new stuff. AND she gives us the directions!!

Off to Sticky Lips later to meet up with my cousin...her mom and other cousins. We have not seen her in a long time!

Morning ladies! (Well I guess it is afternoon! I am getting a late start!)

Happy Birthday Maggie! I guess I'm late tho since you are ahead of us! Sorry!

Chris - love the cards! I have a dear friend that was a SU rep for many years and we had SU club that met once a month at someone's house (which was that months host). As members we were required to place a $15 min order each month (even if we couldn't attend) but we got to make at least 2 cards/projects. She had everything cut and ready for us we just had to stamp it & put it together. She always had to two projects split up on two different tables and had the inks, tape runners, stamps etc split on those two tables. Normally we had at least 10 people committed to stamp club so the host always had at least the $150 min order for hostess gifts but normally more. It was lots of fun and we always left with cute cards or projects. I figured that my friend the SU demonstrator was losing money because she didn't charge for the projects.

My DH, DD & myself have all had terrible colds this last week...mine just wont go away. DD & I went to a painting class yesterday (furniture painting). I had a great time but I was miserable... sneezing & blowing my nose most of the time. I have no plans to even get dressed today! Just staying in my pj's & being lazy!

Have a blessed day ladies!

I'm here - not sure where everyone else is tho.

Hope you and the family are feeling better. I think we are going to have some storms in the next few hours/day as my fibro is flaring a little. Off to take meds and watch a movie while doing some work on my notebooks

Hey Denise! No we arent really feeling any better... its a sneezing, drippy, sniffling, coughing, wheezing place around here! I am muddling thru... fixed a pot of taco soup and did a little laundry. DH & DD havent moved most of the day! I guess its a good thing I cooked something... if it was left to them they might have starved!

I hope your fibro doesnt get too bad. I was hoping the rain we got last night would help our allergies but I think we have moved beyond allergies to full blown sinus infections. FUN FUN!

What kind of notebooks are you working on?

Chris - great picture! I was thinking you had dark hair... did you lighten it or am I losing my mind?

Chris - I am so happy to finally see what you look like. Thanks for sharing your picture.

Kristy - I have several binders and 2 planners that I use. One is my personal planner and the other is my work related (DOT, Driver Medical Card Info, sort of a HR planner to keep the drivers information up to date.)

I just redid my planner and am in the process of updating some of the sections. I will be posting a thread about it later and I will link it here. I prefer binders to the file cabinet - much neater and less space used and then I can use my file cabinet for letter size cardstock and scraps.

Never did get the rain - when the barometric pressure changes - my legs go crazy tingling and numb. Sometimes it is painful but I am use to it so I work through it.

Kristy - sounds like a trip/call to the doctor for meds is in order. Take care and rest! Order take out if you need to instead of cooking!

Hope everyone else has a great week!

Kristy: Are you still working on losing weight? I fell off the wagon but got back on after mum left last week. Friday was my first day back on limited foods. Just for a week (I doubt I'd survive longer than that), I'm having a meal replacement shake for breakfast and dinner with a super healthy lunch. I want to drop 2kg (4lb?) in the first week, then 1kg for the next 6 weeks before I go to Perth. I'm on Myfitnesspal if anyone is there too and needs to 'hook up'.
I am pushing myself (cos I'm so lazy) to go for a brisk walk/jog as soon as I get up too. So far I've managed 4 days in a row. New record!!

Denise: I spent the weekend making cards and then got busy sorting through all my papers. They are 90% sorted now. I went through and tossed/donated some embies off my ClipItUp. Still a lot to do but it's a start. My October goal is to do more scrapping and finish up a pile of old kits I have and clean out all the old stuff to cut back on the crap I keep.

October is also my 'study month'. I need to head out to town for a few errands but when I get back, I had better keep that promise to myself too and get my head in the books. sigh. ick.

I need to get my cards in a post bag and then organise a trip to the Post Office. Will work on that this week.

Good morning all

I think we need some suggestions on how to get more RAKKERS to post. My fear is that soon this group will cease to exist because there's only about 10 of us who post on a regular basis.

I am open to any and all ideas.

Chris - I don't have any solutions or ideas for you. You can't 'make' someone sit at a computer and post. They either do or they don't.

For me, this has been a safe haven from the craziness of nsbr. I have enjoyed being able to post without being flamed, hand-slapped or rejected. I have enjoyed being able to have a group of like-minds who enjoy receiving as much as I enjoy giving. I've enjoyed the challenges and swaps that we've done. And I most definitely have enjoyed getting to know everyone, to the point of calling them friends. (And doing my darnedest to figure out how to visit you all!)

I know it's a big job being Chief and leading us each week. I guess we may need to discuss the future of our thread if we all don't participate? It's ok for things to be only for "a season" and not forever. Don't take it personally. Time and people (and situations) change.

I, too, would be very sad to see the group dismantle. However, is it so bad if only a few are posting? The others check in if they want to and when they can. To me, that's okay. I look forward to sitting down at my computer for a break and checking out the thread to see what everyone is up to. I post when I have something I think is valid to say but sometimes I just read the other posts. I don't think there needs to be rules. That's what makes this thread so inviting - we come when we can and still feel like part of the group. Just saying...

It's ok....I was just having a moment this morning....Maggie and Tracey you're both right....I need to not take it so personally...LOL..

SO...here are some pics of cards sent to me to send to Operation Write Home in Claudia's name. Now I know some of us don't make cards BUT you can send me an Any Hero Card that isn't homemade and has a hand written note inside. They get distributed to heroes who might not get any mail

Here are Jan's:

These are from Ruby...she also sent me lots of other goodies that she didn't need to send...but I do love them!!

Maggie - I'm trying on a half hearted basis.. with all the changes quitting work, staying home etc I havent been trying as hard as I know I should but I have been walking every day but not eating as well as I know I should. I have made a vow to get back at it starting next week.

Christine - I totally, totally agree with Tracey. I think the few that come and post or maybe I should say "the regulars" are plenty to make up the bud of the flower (hold the group together) and the ones that drop in from time to time are the petals that make the flower whole! We are still a group for Rakkers no matter if there is 4 or 40. Lets not take away from the ones that do post on a regular basis by continuing to focus on the ones that arent around. Chris you do a great job... but as my Granny use to say... "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink!"

Denise - you sound really organized... could you come help me get that way?

Love the cards! I'm working on mine, I hope to mail them next week.

Kristy - Get your butt into Myfitnesspal and add me! We can encourage one another. I'm determined to move more and eat better for the rest of the year. (and after, too, of course)

Ahh Chris - You can have a 'moment'. Just don't throw the baby out with the bath water. And Kristy has a good point - there are still enough of us posting to keep the group open.

Denise!! Here's one for you for when you finish your folders...
Your challenge should you choose to accept it:

*This* is my 'jewellery box'. (Yes, it's a shoe box)

As you can see, I just throw everything in there. I try to keep some things organised but, really, it isn't happening.
It's time to tidy that baby up.

How would you tackle this?? Hey, a tackle box! Maybe. It doesn't have to be fancy-schmancy. Just organised like my scrapbooking stash is. (Hang on. Maybe not)
What should I buy to put all my junk in?

I did my hour walk this morning. The garden got some attention - finally. Laundry is almost done. I can't procrastinate any more. I have to do my Tax. sigh

Gardens: JAN: We have a new garden. The owner put in half a dozen roses. With spring, we are getting some new growth. I went out to spray them today for aphids and black spot. I saw lots of ladybirds too. Guess I'm gonna kill them along with the aphids?? Is there a natural spray? Will a garlic spray help with the black spot too or only the aphids? I know I can use a garlic/chilli spray for the aphids. Is there a natural way to get rid of the black spot? (Apart from pulling all the leaves off and having bare branches again) TIA!

Ok, that's it. I think. Time to move on!

Ciao Ladies,

Popping in t" HI " and see how everyone is doing.

Happy Birthday, Maggie....sorry I`m late. I do hope you had a wonderful day !

Been thinking of everyone and working on Claudia`s cards.

I`m part of the social concerns committee for our church. We have started Operation Christmas Child ( OCC) and it is so much work, and only two of us basically doing everything. We have decided after 2 years in a row we will happily pass on to another committee.

Sorry I have not been around, just trying to keep myself busy and some days I dont seem to have enough hours in my day. I think of you all daily !

The cards that have been sent to Christine our beautiful. So many talented gals we have here.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day tomorrow. I hear my bed calling my name

Maggie - I have tons of ideas to share with you:

1. For necklaces and chains - how about and old metal rake. Take the handle off and you have the prongs to drape necklaces/chains on and it keeps them untangled. Another idea is those expandable coat/hat holders.

2. For bracelets - how about a standing towel holder. They will slip right over the rod that holds the towels and it can be colorful.

3. Earrings - ice cube trays for non dangling ones (posts).and for the dangle ones - how about an old frame and you staple screen to the back - slip the earring through the screen and you have them neat and on display.

Tip for traveling with post earrings - place them on a button - put the post through the holes of the buttons and the back on the earring and they stay together.

I have a jewelry cabinet but I use a lot of the tackle, bead, craft organizers for my earrings and broaches. I have over 300 pairs of earrings (thanks to my darling son who buys them for me all the time) so I out grew the cabinet and have them in those containers in the dresser.

Not bad for just waking up and no coffee. I will post more ideas shortly and hopefully take some pictures of how I have mine.

hi girls,
i agree with tracey... chris, you are doing a great job.. and while the regular posters may have dwindled and the amount of posts may not make a 20 page thread (remember those!??!?!), I enjoy stopping in to see what everyone is up to. as for not post much on the thread... until a week or so ago, I wasn't even on 2peas!!! so it wasn't about the RAK thread specifically, KWIM?

i bought a bunch of alcohol inks from 2 women here on 2 peas.. i posted on the sale/trade board. I'm excited to work with those! about a week or 2 ago i was watching a bunch of videos on youtube of tim holtz doing examples, and it had me excited! now, i have a bunch of supplies out in the loft... just need to do a little organizing so i can actually work at the table! i am stuck at the house today so i think i'm going to do that in just a few minutes.

christine, when are you wanting to send those cards on to sandy? maybe i can get to something today... although, almost ALL of my stamps are still in storage. when i went over there the other day , i got out just some basica supplies and my cutters (cricut, cuttlebug, etc). hopefully i have a random one stuck in there somewhere. lol i think i am going to just buy a new "Christmas sentiment" stamp of some kind for my mom's Christmas cards. I don't want to try to go find those in storage. lol anyone seen a good one?

ok, off for now.. have a great day ya'll!

Hi Alicia - glad to see you checking in. Do you want a stamp that says Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas?

WOO-HOO - just finished cleaning out my file cabinet. Have a garbage bag full of trash and on to shred. My shredded took a dump so will have to go to my parents to shred the papers.

Now I am going to start working on my home binder!

Denise, I prefer "Merry Christmas." I would like to find a great sentiment for the inside... seems like my cards are always so plain when it comes to sentiments, does that make sense? have you seen any?

also, i did some binder organizing yesterday! i need to get some dividers so the things in the binders are organized! john does everything by binders, so i got rid of my file cabinet when we moved here. i still have a box of old files to put in sleeves and binder-tize.

ok, really headed to the loft now!

Cards in Claudia's name I'd love to have by first part of November. They are in desperate need of Thinking of you. Missing you and thank you. Remember. NO GLITTER. I will stamp the backs with the Operation Write Home stamp I have.

Alicia. If you're near a hobby lobby their selection of stamps is AMAZING.

hey girls, i had a thought.

what do you think about doing a "secret sister" Christmas/holiday thing? Been a long time since we have done one (I think.... I know I disappeared for awhile)...... it's early enough that people can plan ahead, etc. maybe with a lower minimum value, like $10 plus shipping? Then people wouldn't feel like they couldn't participate if money is an issue.... i know some people (me) have flaked on other things.... and I can tell you i WILL still make the card thing right, if you can trust me! just a thought. might help bring some unity?

Hello ladies

So sorry to be MIA once again. I need to go back to read what everyone is up to. I have been away and this month is a busy one for travelling with Thanksgiving and Alyssa's 3rd birthday party to go to. I have been at my DD so much this month and just got back to make Cranberry Sauce, homemade buns and baked goodies for Sunday. It has been a busy month and I just didn't get the chance to get online.

Christine I am so glad that you are pleased with the cards. I meant to email you to tell you that they were on the way but then I thought it would be nicer as a surprise. If any of the cards don't meet the spec then you can use them for yourself.

Maggie I am sorry to have missed your birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY FRIEND.

Christine I can't see your cards. Is there something I need to do????

I Will come back to catch up after my cranberry sauce is done. Hope everyone is well. I think of you even if I don't get here each week. Take care. Love to all.

Ruby. Not sure why you can't see the cards I posted. Weird.

Alicia. I would love to participate in your idea.

Sharon - so sorry to hear about your mom. How is she doing?

I too will do the Secret Swap. I once again thing it should include something homemade!

Alicia - John sounds like an organized guy. I love binders and they are less hassle as everything is hole punched and neat. I do my binder filings once a week (use to do it once a month but that can get away from me)

A couple of you have asked for the info on the cards for Claudia...here it is!!

I posted on last week's thread that I was trying to think of something we could do as a group in Claudia's name. Did you all know that when a former RAK girl---Sandy--aka Colourful began Operation Write Home (was once called Cards for Heroes), Claudia was a shipper. She would have cards sent to her and then she would mail them to a group of our servicemen overseas.

So...I thought...why not honor her by sending cards to them in her name. Even if you're not a card maker..(even if you sent me one homemade card)..I think this is an easy task. If we could many of you to make even 10 cards each, think of the sheer number of cards we could send. Below is the info about the cards. I have the OWH stamp that has to go on the back of each card.

Those that are not card makers, those of us who are can give you some easy tips to make a card. Please think about this endeavor.

Guidelines for our cards to be sent to Operation Write Home:

Feel free to send them my way at any time.I will mail what I receive by November 1st (this is a 'soft' deadline...LOL) to Sandy. Wouldn't it be great if we could fill a postal box??? She is in need of Thank you/Missing you/Thinking of you. They always get tons of holiday ones so these will help tremendously. Kids birthday cards are also an idea!!

NO glitter as it is a safety hazard. Stickles are ok.
4.25 x 5.5 - you also need to include an envelope with each card. I will stamp the back with the OWH stamp I have. Line dark cards with white cardstock. This is done so that even a pencil will show up. I will also print off a packing slip to go with them and Sandy said she will take a picture of all the cards sent in Claudia's name.
Do not use foamies, itty-bitty stickers, or glue sticks they don't hold up to the rigors of the battlefront.

Some dimension is ok and is loved. Our heroes don't have to pay for letter mail, but that doesn't mean we can go wild with thick layers and embellishments. Save the big vintage buttons and deep 3D embellishments for Any Hero mail that doesn't have to go through the postal system¦we want to be sure your cards make it to their intended destination.
No handwritten sentiments. Some of the military wives have shared with us their instant angst when they opened a card, and the first handwriting they saw was the sentiment on the front by another woman. *gasp* so we no longer send cards with handwritten sentiments on the outside or inside of the card, to keep even one heart from panicking.

ANY HERO CARDS:
These are given out to those service members who might not get much mail. It's almost like a thank you note from us to them. So feel free to send one or two with your cards and mark Any Hero on the outside. Anything on your Any Hero cards may be handwritten.

Please email me with any questions/suggestions. Thanks!!

I would love to do a secret sister swap! I loved the one that we did last year... it was fun doing something homemade & receiving something homemade! Sign me up!

Alicia - got my fingers crossed that the interview went well today!

Maggie - I will check out the Myfitnesspal.. that would be great if we could support each on there also!

I had my 3 month check up with my diabetic dr today and this was the BEST checkup that I have had since being diagnosed! My A1C was in the normal range! My cholesterol was lower & in normal ranges, my vitamin D was back in normal ranges... I was really excited. The doctor took me off one of my meds & reduced another med. She said I was doing so good that I didnt need to come back for 6 months! SOOOOO excited! Gives me motivation to get back at losing weight. I would so love to be off all my meds in 6 months!!!

Sharon - I'm so very sorry about your Mom! I will add your family to my prayer list! Keep us updated on her progress.

Everyone have a blessed evening!

I'MMMMM BBBAAACCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!

Job interview went well, however it's only 20 hours a week. It's with the Job Corps. They have about 375 students, most of which are residential. The students are 16-24 years old. They are in various job training programs (auto tech, food service, etc) or in a GED program. They are not court appointed, meaning they are not there because the court is making them go.... i know when I was in NC there was a "job corps" type program that was court involved, so that is why I differentiated this one. Anyway, the job was for a Recreation Specialist...... supervising various recreation programs after their school day is done. They have some amazing facilities, including a beautiful pool..... but like I said, only part time, and not great pay.... and it's a drive. Not sure it's worth driving over there for a 5 hour shift. We'll see. It is the type of job I would love to have though!

I am so excited so see so many people interested in the swap!!! Christine, I know you are not liking the "handmade thing".... have you thought about making a set of cards? I remember getting a set of cards (I think Jan made them)... and I LOVED them! You always post such great cards... I would love something like that, and I'm sure others would too.... just a thought, but we don't have to have the handmade requirement either.

Today was just a crappy day for most of us here. lol I feel like all I did was drive around and got little done! Vicki had a car problem.. thankfully I was in the area! Not only was I in the area, she called me from the Wal-Mart parking lot and I happened to have just arrived there for something unrelated! lol

I wanted to try something new for dinner... for a couple weeks I have wanted to try a "french bread pizza" type thing. I bought bread and ingredients last week but the bread got hard before we had a chance to use it. so i tried again this week, and we had it for dinner tonight. everyone said they liked it... it was fun to put your own ingredients, etc. the only complaint was the bread was too crispy, which I agree. I had put it in the oven for a bit before we made them because I had read the bread will just soak up the sauce and get soggy if you don't toast it a bit..... but is there a way to get it from getting so crispy? for what it's worth, i used an italian bread, not specifically a french loaf.

ok, i've rambled on long enough. have a great night ya'll!

Morning all.

Yesterday was a very productive day for me. I emptied the pantry and went through all the items sorting by type (baking, vegetables, pasta/rice/potato, etc. Before I put everything back I did an inventory sheet listing everything I have and what shelf it is on. My DD was over so she took 2 boxes of stuff home. I guess when your pantry or cabinets are not organized, you tend to get more of what you think you are out of. I had 13 boxes of mac and cheese! So now my pantry is all neat and organized and inventoried so I can do some meal planning!

Chris - I agree with Alicia - you do beautiful cards and that would be homemade! I loved the personal touch besides the shopping. I know that several of the ladies have so much talent and they create awesome items.
