It *sounded* tasty. Picture looked appetizing. But the execution really fell short.

This time it was pumpkin ravioli with squash and asparagus. It was one of those microwave dinners I occasionally keep on hand for when I need something hot. My DH said it sounded nasty, but since he is not a fan of pumpkin or squash I ignored him.

The filling was almost cloyingly sweet, more like pumpkin pie than a savory dish, and the squash and asparagus sauce was very flat and leaned to the sweet side. I couldn't even finish it.

Now I'm getting "I told you so".

And the worst part is when food disappoints I end up trying to find something to satisfy or redeem my taste buds and I end up eating WAY more than I should.

The last thing I, personally, made that disappointed me was a Brownie Batter dip I found on pintrest. DH and DD liked it, but once again, the picture and description failed to deliver.

PVM and tell me I'm not the only one that gets let down by food.

You're not alone!

Pintrest is my downfall. I see all these wonderful looking recipes, try them out and they're just "meh." Or sometimes it's even worse and they're horrible.

I completely understand. Yesterday I made a large batch of ham and navy bean soup. Except that I was out of onions and I am trying to use up things in my pantry before we move, so I used a jar of pearl onions that I had purchased for something that never got made.

I couldn't eat it. Those freaking pearl onions were staring at me like albino grapes.

I hate that too. Especially when it's something I've had to go out and buy a bunch of ingredients for.

I have just about given up on Pinterest recipes. I have a Tried and True board and after I've made something, if I would make it again I pin it there. So far I've tried around 30 Pinterest recipes. 7 of them are on the Tried and True board. Most of the ones I've tried are either "meh" or just plain nasty.

fried green tomatoes.

I tried making them once and they are bland. I imagined a green tomato would taste tart. That's what I was expecting. What a letdown.

Yep. Normally I am pretty good at most recipes but I tried to make fresh ravioli once and everything just fell apart. I get so disappointed when a recipe fails and I usually never try it again.

These days, I'm thrilled when something doesn't taste as good as I think it will. I'll be sure to eat less that way.

However, I've been trying recipes from skinnytaste.com and every freakin' thing I've made has been delish. Just my luck!

OP, sorry you were disappointed.

ETA: I have the Kevin and Amanda pulled pork roast cooking today and my house smells AMAZING right now!

Yes, it's disappointing when food isn't what you hoped for or craved. However, I think expecting food frozen in a box to satisfy is sort of like thinking going to war over land in SE Asia is a good idea. Or arguing with a Sicilian when death is on the line ;P
It's just best not to go there to start with!

I keep trying to expand my families dinner menu and most of the time it does not come out the way I want it too. Yesterday I put in a beef roast in the crockpot and added a can of roasted tomatoes with garlic, a can of green chilies, a onion and lots of garlic. It tasted way too bland, I had even added a couple of teaspoons of red chili just to give it flavor. I pin lots of recipes and sometimes get sidetracked with other blogs but have yet to find something that I can add to our menu...spaghetti and taco meat gets old.

DH can't gloat too much, though. He had a massive recipe fail a few weeks ago. He was making chicken and dumplings, a family favorite. However, I only had chicken thighs on hand instead of boneless skinless breasts.

I *tried* to suggest how to fix the chicken since the homemade broth already had plenty of fat in it, but NOOOOO, Pikachu knows everything.

Epic fail. Epic. I managed to choke down three bites. DS, who is the Mikey of carbohydrates couldn't even eat them. Then we spent the rest of the evening going back to the fridge and pantry trying to find something to satisfy.

On the upside, this past Sunday DH redeemed himself and made some awesome chicken and dumplings.

Bwwwwwwaahhhhhhhaaaaa! Pearl onions make me gag. Ugh. I love any other onion, but pearl onions are nasty.

I'd say about 25% of the recipes I've tried on Pinterest are ones that I will make again. The pictures look so delicious, but mostly, they are disappointing, IMHO!

I hate that too! I have had 2 recipie fails in the past week from things I pinned on Pinterest. Baked Zucchini Chips and S'more Cupcakes. Both were a lot of work for disappointing results.

It makes me wish there was a way to rate things on Pinterest. In addition to being dissapointed in a recipie not tasting good, I feel bad that people repinned my pin and might try them too. Sorta like I lead them on.

I am leary with Pinterest recipes after a yuck vegetable soup incident. The picture looked SOOO good but it just turned out tasting like canned tomato soup

I do too! Especially after I take a long time to buy the ingredients and prepared the food.

Well, I'm pretty sure there's your answer. You didn't make this, right? It came out of a box. I think that's pretty much a guarantee of disappointment.
