I just heard loud banging on my roof, so I went out to see what was going on, and there is a ladder on the side of my house and there are some men, one on my next door neighbors roof, one on the ladder, and at least one on my roof hammering, I can't really see him. I asked what they were doing, and they said they were doing something to the vents (English is not their first language, so they were having a hard time explaining it to me.) I asked who told them to do that, and the guy on the ladder kind of shrugged and said they were doing all of the houses on my street.

My street is new, and all of the houses were built by the same builder, so I called his office to see what was going on. He called me back, and said he doesn't know what's going on, but will find out. Meanwhile, they've moved on to the other neighbor's house.

I was kinda freaked out when I started this post, but now that they're off my roof I've calmed down a bit.

I only want to know if it's hot out and were any of them shirtless and if so, were they worth gawking at. Please report back.

I would call the police. Heaven knows what they're doing.

Makes me very suspicious and they would have been off my roof immediately until I got it sorted out or the police would have been involved.

Maybe the company that installed the vents had a problem with one of the vents in the subdivision and decided to check all of them while they were there. Hope you hear back soon.

I would still call the police! Banging on your roof w/o permission could possibly mean damage to your roof.

why wouldn't anyone just put a notice on your door? or knock on your door and ID themselves before the banging started?

Finding strangers on your roof would be surprising!

I don't own a newly built home like yours, so I don't know how things work... Is it normal for the builder to just send people out to do stuff on your house?

There is no way I'd ever call the police because someone was in my roof. If they refused to get down when I asked them to, yes, but that wouldn't be my first reaction.

Ok, just talked to my builder again. The roofing company that did all of our houses found some problems on some of the houses, so he sent his crew to check out every house on the street and fix any loose nails or cracked shingles, etc. He just neglected to A. tell the builder, and B. tell any of the homeowners, and C. tell his guys to knock on the door before they climb on the roof.

The reason I didn't call the police (and I was very very close to doing that) was because they did look like guys I'd seen working in the neighborhood before. It's a new neighborhood, so constant construction. I wanted to check with my builder first. By the time I got off the phone with him, they had already moved on to the next house. I knew my builder would either find out what was going on or call the police himself. Had they still been on my roof after I talked to him, I would have asked them to get off of my property and then called the police if they didn't leave immediately.

And no, they all had shirts, and that was probably a good thing. Like I said, the neighborhood is full of construction workers, but none of them have been worth taking a Diet Coke break for.

I could see that happening here. We are also in a new subdivision and have constant construction going on. Our builder would be right on it and report back to us, just like yours did. We have a great builder, thank goodness.

I'm pretty happy with my builder too! He said I was just the first one to call, the phone was ringing off the hook when he called me back.

I've learned to live with the hammering all day long, it just really startled me when I realized it was actually on my house.

Glad you found out what it was. I was like "Vents? Are they fixing the vents so they can tunnel INTO THE HOUSES?" Nothing like being paranoid on this fine Friday afternoon!
