I sent my mother an email with a few pictures (maybe 5?) from a dress rehearsal of my DD's first college show. We're pretty excited here. (eta I sent the email with photos about 2 weeks ago)

I understand that others may not be as excited as we are...even if it is family.

My mom called yesterday (I guess she forgot we were spending the day/night at the college to actually see the show) and left a voice mail.

I called her back today and she asked if I looked at the email she sent to me a few days ago. I told her that I've been busy...was gone from home...and that I looked at it briefly, saw it was addressed to several people and didn't spend a lot of time on it. I told her that I still have it and I'd take a look at it.

She started to lecture me about how she doesn't send much, but when she sends something, she does so because it's really good.

I let her finish and then asked her if she had yet looked at the photos I sent her of her Granddaughter.

Nope. She hadn't looked at those.

Seriously? You're going to give me a hard time and attempted guilt trip when I didn't look at your forwarded junk mail chain letter stuff because you say it's "good" yet you can't look at 5 photos of one of your grandchildren?

Sigh. People just want to make you beat your head against the desk sometimes, don't they?

But it does make for a funny mental picture of her expression when you asked her about the photos... hope the show was awesome and your DD had a blast!

I didn't need to say a whole lot once my point was made. It's unfortunate though that I even had an opportunity to make the point.

The show was fantastic. I was beyond impressed at the set and wardrobe...DD was "only" in the ensemble (although she did have a few lines and delivered them wonderfully, of course ) but had 2 costumes. Reno Sweeney and Hope Harcourt had at least 6-7 slinky evening dresses...complete with light capturing bling and glitter.

I was quite impressed. And seeing DD up on stage doing something she loves...I nearly cried my heart was so full.

I really really hate forwarded junk mail crap. I don't care how "good" it is. I will not open any mail if I suspect that's what it is.

It is a shame that your mom is more interested in junk e-mail than something really exciting that is going on in her granddaughters life. Her loss.

Don't let this diminish the wonderful weekend you shared with your daughter.

Congratulations to your daughter. I'm glad you were able to see her perform. As for your mom, eh. We all have good days and then come the bad days.

Like coat hangers they multiplied, under the bed I think until they were threatening to take over that precious space that we all covet and refuse to cede to other family members. Thus I became PunchPrincess. )

Ugh, that smarts. She didn't bother looking at her grandaughter's performance but thought you should have acknowledged her forward? I'd have said I'd deleted it unread because that is what I, personally, always do with junk mail. And it's what I tell anyone who asks if I received one they sent.

been there - my grandma one time gave me a hard time because I sent a card late - but she couldn't be bothered to send me a birthday card. I was pregnant and dealing with a toddler at the time...

good luck.

Sorry your Mom was acting so childishly. Things like this make my head spin...OTOH, I've been there, done that with my own family.

My mom's like that, too.

I am glad you got to see your dd in her production.
