I'm seeing post after post of things that have no purpose other than "ha ha" and even jokes about the fact that some Peas are gloating.
It seems to me that the intent is to keep the divisiveness going and mash the face of fellow peas in the mud.
I can understand it happening right after the election but at this point, it seems very mean spirited. |

I hope that all of you are right and Obama is the best president ever. I will graciously admit that I was wrong. However, making a mockery of my beliefs isn't helping me see your side at all. In fact, it makes me want to just stay away from here and closes down all communication.

OK, so I'm the worst offender of all.
The fact is, though, in this instance, I haven't really been involved in the whole political brouhaha this year. So the people that it's happening to are people other than "me".
And since people here often say "two wrongs don't make right", then doesn't it seem that even if "I" have done it in the past is no excuse for others doing it now? Or, like most things, is it OK when people you agree with do it but not OK when those you disagree do it?
If someone other than me made the observation, would it make the question any more or less accurate? Or are you using the fact that "I'm" making the observation an excuse to dismiss it out of hand because you really don't want to consider the observation itself because it just might make you acknowledge your own poor behavior? |

Tracey, I don't think people want to try to come together. I think too many liberals enjoy taunting the "losers" and I think there are some sore losers.
In the end, it's more of the same. And as one poster wrote, the taunting stops being "fun" when the situation interferes with their own personal relationships. Prior to that, it's all great. I wonder how many of the taunting Peas will be oh so full of sympathy if the situation ends up destroying Mergeleft's marriage. The height of hypocrisy but I'm sure if this happens many of the people on this thread talking about tacos in an attempt to derail the thread will be right there with (((hugs)) and "I'm so sorry" ignoring the fact that they are part of the problem. |

This is just my opinion...
This is the first election where the internet and social media have played such a large part in the election and leading up to it. In part it was a good thing because I would hope that it made more people feel involved and educated about the candidates. In part is was a bad thing because it was filled with strong opinions and people who sometimes forget that even over the internet, they are taking to a real person on the other end.
Frankly I see both sides; Obama supporters who are happy and sometimes menaly gloating and Romeny supporters who are upset and sometimes saying mean things about Obama supports being dumb, wrong, etc.
I think because of the socail media and internet, people felt more involved and therefore, a loss is harder and a win is much better (if that makes sense).
I wish that the Obama supporters would not gloat for gloating sake because it's just not nice and it perpetuates the us against them. And I wish the Romney supports would stop saying that the other side will see how wrong they are/dumb they are because it again continues the us against them mentality.
The fact of the matter is that like congress needs to figure out how to work together, the US population needs to figure out how to work toether. How can we expect Congress to compromise when we can't? |

I don't drink. So the margaritas are a affront to my agenda.

Lauren, I think elections make everyone feel like they need midol. And then some take the midol, and others don't. And they should.
And I make that statement as a general one, not inferring party lines on either side.
Maybe margaritas ARE the answer.
We had an election with two highly differing agendas.
Obama won, but at a 52/48 split, it just seems to me that a middle ground does not exist. And where does that leave us? |

Bisquick Taco Bake recipe:
1 pound lean ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped (1/2 cup)
1 package (1 ounce) Old El Paso® taco seasoning mix
1 can (16 ounces) tomato sauce
1 can (15.25 ounces) Green Giant® whole kernel corn
2 cups shredded Cheddar or process American cheese (8 ounces)
2 cups Original Bisquick® mix
1 cup milk
2 eggs
Sour cream, chopped tomato and shredded lettuce, if desired
Heat oven to 325ºF. Grease rectangular pan, 13x9x2 inches..
Cook ground beef and onion in 10-inch skillet, stirring frequently, until beef is brown; drain. Stir in dry seasoning mix, tomato sauce and corn. Spoon into pan; sprinkle with cheese. Stir Bisquick mix, milk and eggs until smooth. Pour over beef mixture.
Bake about 35 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes before cutting. Serve with remaining ingredients.

And fajitas are definitely better than both tacos and nachos. Margaritas trump them all, however. |

My deepest apologies for implying that you were taunting. I dont' recall that either. Obviously (to me) you wouldnt' have had a chance to do that and then suddenly figure out your dh was upset - you've known all along.
My intended point was that it's funny to people who don't have a close personal relationship that they seriously want to maintain. People who care deeply about someone hurting about the election, like you, will not find it funny to taunt and spike the football at all, much less for weeks on end, because there are real people and real fears out there, not just a bunch of nuts who deserve to be made fun of for those fears.
We used to listen to the opposing side and treat them with respect if not agreement, not try to bury them and totally discredit any opinion they might have. But I think too many people live in an insulated world of like-minded people and buy into the crazy internet caricatures. Keyboard courage and anonymity sends some people over the edge in nasty behavior. |

Confirmation bias (also called confirmatory bias or myside bias) is a tendency of people to favor information that confirms their beliefs or hypotheses.[Note 1][1] People display this bias when they gather or remember information selectively, or when they interpret it in a biased way. The effect is stronger for emotionally charged issues and for deeply entrenched beliefs. For example, in reading about gun control, people usually prefer sources that affirm their existing attitudes. They also tend to interpret ambiguous evidence as supporting their existing position. Biased search, interpretation and memory have been invoked to explain attitude polarization (when a disagreement becomes more extreme even though the different parties are exposed to the same evidence), belief perseverance (when beliefs persist after the evidence for them is shown to be false), the irrational primacy effect (a greater reliance on information encountered early in a series) and illusory correlation (when people falsely perceive an association between two events or situations).
A series of experiments in the 1960s suggested that people are biased toward confirming their existing beliefs. Later work re-interpreted these results as a tendency to test ideas in a one-sided way, focusing on one possibility and ignoring alternatives. In certain situations, this tendency can bias people's conclusions. Explanations for the observed biases include wishful thinking and the limited human capacity to process information. Another explanation is that people show confirmation bias because they are weighing up the costs of being wrong, rather than investigating in a neutral, scientific way.
Confirmation biases contribute to overconfidence in personal beliefs and can maintain or strengthen beliefs in the face of contrary evidence. Poor decisions due to these biases have been found in military, political, and organizational contexts.
With all due respect I think above applies to you Lauren.
I have been reading most of the threads since the election and was pleased there were not that many comments about Romney from the Obama supporters. I knew there would be sour grapes from the Romney folks and that is to be expected because their guy lost. But what I was not expecting to see was the nastiness by some Romney supporters toward the Obama supporters on this board.
Of course it doesn't help that Romney himself is in denial about what happened on election day and just insulted the voters who voted for the President instead of him. But whatever.

People who care deeply about someone hurting about the election, like you, will not find it funny to taunt and spike the football at all, much less for weeks on end, because there are real people and real fears out there, not just a bunch of nuts who deserve to be made fun of for those fears.
I think the issue is that some fears are legitimate, taxes going up in January, real fear for many families that are already struggling. However, you have to admit, that there are also a bunch of Chick Littles running around waiting for the sky to fall. It's hard to take "fear" seriously when you see posts about G-d forsaking our country simply because Obama was re-elected.

NightOwl - people have been "taunting" for WEEKS on end?
I don't think Karl Rove had finished "re-counting" and people were already saying:
"Hey! Fine! You guys won .. Stop gloating!!!"
