I haven't had a chance to work on christmas paintings for my family (I was doing something special for every person I give a gift to) because this past weekend I had my first art show ever. It ended up being a lot of gifts and a little art, not what I expected but I did ok anyway.

These are some of the pieces I created for the show.

I'm really into feathers and love painting them. I painted during the show an painted all feathers. Sold one big one before it was even trimmed down or framed!

I love to paint rocks too!

I really got into painting botanicals too. I love all the little bits of nature to make a collage.

One of my all time favorites, Aspen Forest. The original is 20" x 10". I'm thinking I'll paint another only larger and this time with some owls in it. I love tiny detail work, but to do that you have to pain large pieces.

One of my favorite pieces. I like painting birds a lot. This is a winter wren. I didn't know for sure if I liked it until the very last bit when I put the snow on with gouache. I made this into Christmas cards and prints and did well with it.

Everybody is ga-ga over this one. Funny thing is, I almost didn't paint it as it was the last piece I did before the show. Sold out of cards twice and prints twice.

I found out that people don't want to spend big money on the orignals (the bigger pieces). They want prints, cards, small stuff. That really surprised me. I'm a "go big or go home" kind of girl. LOL.

Anyway, I just wanted to share since I hadn't shared any of the others. I'll have some new things to share soon. I'm working on a bit family tree for my in-laws. It has EIGHT portraits on it. Yikes. One of them is ME. Never have done a self portrait. LOL.

Still haven't figured out what to paint my other little sister. She's so damn practical. Trying to paint my bil/sil's kids and wow, kids are hard. Totally kicking my butt.

Free~Bird: WOW!!! I'm in awe!! The feathers looked like real photographs. Amazing. And all of the other paintings are just wonderful!! I love the one with the snowman and your birds are outstanding. For some reason, I, too, could see a few of these on printed blank cards. I guess that's an insult? I'm sure it would be big business to sell so many of them. Is it possible to sell the original ones as artwork too??? You're just SO talented!!

I've been thinking about opening an etsy store with the things I have left. I've just been really busy this week.

I have a friend that does painting on feathers. You should try.

I paint in watercolor, I'm not sure that's possible! My mom tried it in oils when I was a kid and couldn't get it. It's really hard! You friend must be very talented.

Thanks everyone for the compliments!
Someone at the show said "you should work at hallmark". Hallmark, if you're looking at this thread, I'm totally available. LOL.

I'll be working through the winter on 25 large pieces to present to the local museum for a potential show in 18-months to 2 years.

My mom sold her art at art shows and gift festivals too. She found the same as you, that people mostly bought little things. You might look into doing t-shirts too. She sold a lot of t-shirts.

Excellent job!!
