I cannot remember when my kids stopped calling me Mommy. Maybe 8-10ish? It seemed very normal and natural. But now with FB, I see that my friends' kids are all calling their moms "mommy" and it really surprises me. They are aged 16-early 20s.
I live in the South so we hear "Daddy" a lot, no matter how old the child, but I have never heard one person call their mother "Mommy" past the age of 12. Is this a regional thing (these are friends of mine from Colorado)? |

We are in the south, but I don't think that matters, because. One of. Y friends call their moms mommy nor does my sister. |

I only do it when I'm being sarcastic. Mom laughs when I do it, because it's so ridulous and babyish. I'd wonder why anyone over 8ish was calling their mom "mommy". I fully expect to hear my friend's kids to switch over to mom and dad any day now.

My oldest is 13 and he very rarely calls me Mommy. Like others said, when he wants something and thinks hes being so charming that I cant tell him no he will. But he does occasionally just because, but that's rare.
My almost 9 year old does, as does my 4 year old. |

I'm one of 4 kids. Only one of my brothers ever phased out of calling my parents "Mommy" and "Daddy" - and he did so around middle school. |

My 44 yo DH and his 52 yo sister call my MIL mommy and it makes me feel squeamish. It sounds so babyish. My DH is a very well spoken person and never even talked baby to the kids (the day DS was born he was explaining quantum physics to him, just joking, but still). It sounds so weird coming from him.

That makes me kinda teary.
My older boys, in their early 20s, call me Mommy most of the time. My younger boys, who are 10, only call me Mommy once in a while. They're too cool for that right now, but if they're like their older brothers, they'll go back to calling me Mommy when they turn 15 or so. |

Ds (13) stopped about 2 years ago and I'm just Mom now. Dd (15) has always called me Momma and still does. My husband is and will always be Daddy to both of them. My parents were Mommy and Daddy until they died at age 94 and 96. I think I only called her Mom when I was annoyed with her (probably most of my teenage years). |

Was never mommy. But I still get called momma. I call my mom "Mother" when I am exasperated or trying to get her attention, otherwise it is momma. The only time I hear mommy from any of mine is when my DD is not feeling well. I get a mommy and then she folds up her 5'7" frame and crawls up in my lap. Both boys still call me momma but I get a "Mother" from oldest when he thinks he is older than he is! |

I don't remember ever being Mommy, always Mama. My kids are adults, so I've been Mom for many years, but the Mama still slips in occasionally in the more sentimental moments. My DH was always Daddy, then Dad but now I'm noticing the older two are using Pop all the time. |

My kids are 15 and 12. Sometimes the 15 yo will still call me mommy. She's sweet as sugar and sassy as hotsauce!
I was with extended family this past week and I heard my 16 yo nephew call my SIL mother. He would say something like "Mother, what time are we leaving?" Sounded strange but endearing at the same time.

I'm 30 and I still sometimes call her Mommy. Mil wants to be called mom and we are with both of them fairly often...so I have to call my mom something else mommy or mama otherwise it is just way to confusing. My dad is daddy. Fil is dad. Again confusing...but it makes my inlaws happy and my parents don't mind (and neither do I). |

Girls ages 17, 19 and 21.
I am called "Mom, Momma, Mami (spanish), Mommy (mostly teasing) and the eldest uses "Marmi" as well a la Little Women book.
I remember being shocked when I first heard my future dh refer to HIS mother as "Ma". It sounded so rude to my ears. Then I heard her calling her own mother and mil "Ma" as well - so I realized to them it was just a family name.
I'm a 50yo now and refer to my parents as "Mom" and "Daddy".
I refer to my in-laws as "Ma" and "Dad". After almost 30 yrs it just feels right!

Can't remember when my son quit calling me
Mommy. Not sure if we went through a mom
phase. Hmmm.
He calls me mum. We are not British. So
I really don't know where it came from.
Isn't mum or mummy usually British?
A friend's daughter calls her mommy all
the time. The girl is a senior. It has made me
a little sad over the loss of being call mommy.
Though my husband & son will say mommy
when they are talking to Little Bit. He is my
dog, attached at the hip.
So they'll ask him if he wants his mommy or
here's your mommy & the like. |

I don't remember mine ever calling me mommy. It was momma up until late childhood when it went to Mom then early twenties it started swinging between mom and momma depending on who else is around.
Around 11 or 12 my youngest started calling me Ma to see if he could get a rise out of me. He still typically calls me Ma. I don't mind. |
