I keep seeing all of these posts here and elsewhere saying that if the Republicans are so unhappy about the election, let them go ahead and leave the country or secede from the union.
My question is, what do you honestly think would happen if the only people left in the United States were the Democrats?

Hmmmm, interesting question....not necessarily if there were only Democrats left but if all citizens were from any party in any country....would the lack of diversity of opinion lead to less innovation of all kinds, would it lead to less accountability, etc.....

It would be Utopia. Democrats don't see value in conservative values or contributions. If I were able to leave I would.

I'm serious. IF working hard and doing all I can to pay my way aren't rewarded, I'd be willing to find a place those values were appreciated.

People continue to create divisions amongst themselves. You would just ultimately have a rift between "levels" of Democrats. It's human nature. |

A friend of mine set up a Republican Election Night group on FB where we could chat it up and I have to say, it was nice to be able to be among people who shared a lot of the same values as I do.
In my mind I think it would be awesome to be amongst "my people". lol... but I also know that it probably wouldn't be so awesome if it was a permanent thing. Does that makes sense? |

Ah. I see that this week's recurring themes are "Democrats want free stuff" and "it's my ball, I'm going home."
I am a lifelong Democrat. I work hard, I raise my family, I even have an employee of my very own, and I believe in the values of my party. I have never asked for or wished for Republicans to leave the country, form their own country, or even, gasp, defriend me on Facebook. Is it possible that we could give this a rest? | |

FFS! I am so tired of this shit. There are probably as many Republicans who want free stuff too or who are working the system so they pay less in taxes, etc. So quit with the babble. Every liberal I know works and pays for their stuff. I don't expect any free stuff. There is a mess a people living in the deep south that are probably part of the 47% who don't pay taxes. I am sure they voted for Romney.
Democrats do not fit under one umbrella. They fight amongst themselves. |

People who think like this have alread left and have already seceded, from reality. Living in the bubble is a comfort of sorts.
They can look down on and blame the mythic 47% of "takers" for all the ills of modern day society and for anything that doesn't go thier way.
Not all that different really from the beginnings of the Nazi worldview, where the Jews, Bolsheviks and all other minorities were scapegoated by the ethnic Germans.

You are out of your damn mind!
I guess you're forgetting all about the trailer trash and rednecks who live on the dole, welfare and disability all their lives, but vote Repub. because, Jesus!! and Amurrikah, f%ck yeah! But it's OK, because they are white apparently. Most of them don't even understand half the sh!t our government does for them. They think Medicare is not a government program. Notice how the poorest states, the ones that get the most Federal money, vote RED! But noooooo, it's the Democrats that want free stuff and yet Blue states are the wealthiest.

I am a liberal who pays my own way. I was raised that way by fully democratic parents who paid their own way. My mom had a successful small business. My parents are living off their investments. They didn't have a beautiful house with beautiful furniture and and beautiful clothing. My mom owned a rental property business in So Cal and often rented to hard working people who paid their rent on time and wanted a better life for themselves. Some of those folks were *gasp* illegals. They paid taxes through their rent, consumer goods and fake social security numbers. They got healthcare thru cash paying clinics.
That said I have no wishes for the conservatives to leave. This America where we show the rest of the world we can have stark differences in our beliefs and still get along peacefully.
JMHO.

"A thorough knowledge of the Bible is worth more than a college education."
- President Theodore Roosevelt
On June 28, 1787, as Governor of Pennsylvania, Benjamin Franklin hosted the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, where he moved:
"That henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessing on our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning."
Franklin wrote April 17, 1787:
"Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters."
Benjamin Franklin wrote his epitaph:
"THE BODY of BENJAMIN FRANKLIN - Printer. Like the cover of an old book, Its contents torn out, And stripped of its lettering and gilding, Lies here, food for worms; Yet the work itself shall not be lost, For it will (as he believed) appear once more, In a new, And more beautiful edition, Corrected and amended By The AUTHOR."

Um, excuse you. I usually stay out of the controversial threads, but I'm DONE being insulted by people like you. People who think all Democrats are like this ^^^^
Stop believing everything politicians feed you about those voting for "the other side", and actually get to know some Democrats. Some real, everyday, hard-working Deomcrats. The kind that take care of their families, own businesses, AND feel its necessary to make sure the poorest in this country aren't thrown out like last week's trash.
Some info about me:
I have a Doctorate degree.
I own a 5000 sq ft home in suburbia.
I have a husband who has an MBA.
We drive 2 brand new SUVs.
Our son goes to private school.
We have substantial investments and don't keep revolving debt.
We are Black.
We are hit hard by capital gains and all the other taxes usually reserved for "rich White guys".
We are small business owners
We believe in government assistance for those who need it.
We believe that no one should go hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt because they get sick.
I'm not saying this to brag. I'm saying this because I'm sick of Democrats being portrayed as "wanting free things". We've worked hard for EVERYTHING we have. How dare (general) you question our work ethic and love for this country.
Get a clue.
ETA: Forgot to add that we're also Jesus-lovin, "you must be born again", bible carrying Christians. How's that for "typical"?

Well actually in California right now with the super Democratic majority in the state government the Republicans may as well be gone.
It will be interesting, over the next two years, to see how well an all Democratic government can govern.

The logic is all backwards here. Certainly not all Democrats want free stuff, so there is no need to insult ALL Democrats with such a pronouncement. However, people who want free stuff tend to vote Democratic.
What would happen if all the "R's" left? They'd run out of people to tax faster. The people most upset by the election are the ones with the most to lose. It looks like we'll pay about $25k more in taxes. That's money we won't be investing or spending on goods and services in our community thus expanding the tax base. Instead it will go to Washington to pay back the money that they've already p*ssed away. There doesn't seem to be a lot of incentive to work harder and be more productive. |
