What change did you make -- could be a lifestyle change, a new purchase etc...anything....that has made you happier?

For me I can think of three things: I reduced my hours at work a little, I started running again, and we bought a plug in car that is super fun to drive.

I had my Left knee replaced in June. It's getting better everyday and I am thankful that I was able to get it done. I will have my right knee replaced next June.

I had a baby girl. Nothing could make me happier than her sweet little face.

I also cut back my hours at work to spend more time with my kids.

We hired a cleaning service to come every two weeks at $60 per visit. It has literally changed our lives and how we feel in our home.

My husband's company closed in March. He found two job opportunities - one with a pay increase and a move across states, and one with a nearly 50% pay cut and staying where we love. He took the latter and parting ways with corporate America reduced our income but also his stress level, physical stress related issues, time away with travel, job responsibilities, overall commitments and family compromises. Strange how that worked.

Have gone back to the Roman Catholic church to complete my sacraments. I have had no spiritual/religious life since I was a small child. So I am very excited to have found that, along with my youngest daughter who will be baptized catholic this easter.

I have also made a huge effort to not let little things get to me so easily. Makes my job alot easier.

I quit my job last January. I was there for 13 years, but haven't regretted the decision for one second. I've loved being able to spend more time with my family, and my stress level has decreased dramatically.

I had breast reconstruction surgery- well, actually three surgeries but I'm done now and it looks amazing!! Better than the ones I had before cancer!! And my reconstruction was a muscle sparing TRAM, so I also had what amounts to a tummy tuck. I feel whole and normal again.

I got a new job. While I didn't hate my job (which I still do part-time, at least temporarily), it was in retail. I was lucky in that I had a set schedule, but hated working all day every Saturday. The new job is M-F, no weekends.

And on a personal level, I've made some great new friends and have been spending a lot of time with them in the last year and it's just been wonderful.

I lost over 50 lbs. Unfortunately, I lost it due to a medical condition and don't really eat orally, anymore. Food and I had to part ways and I could post a novel about the harshness of that reality. However, I can shop knowing that stuff will fit. It's not the way to lose weight and the flip side is awful, but I do enjoy being thin. I am still getting used to saying that.

I had gastric bypass surgery February 15, 2012. My diabetes is much better (maybe in remission), I've lost weight, eating better, and running for the first time in my entire life. I'm finally doing something to improve my quality of life and, hopefully, length of life.

I started running again after having the baby and it has really helped with my stress level and gives me some "me" time.

Several things - the biggest is that I got a pacemaker a few months ago - and it has changed my life significantly!!! Who knew an electrical connection between my brain and my heart was causing me to be so tired all of the time! I feel at least 10 years younger since getting the pacemaker.
(And I can drive again without fear of passing out!)

We got a sweet cat and I adore him.

I started grad school and I'm full of excitement and hope for our future.

I started being responsible for my own happiness instead of looking to other people to provide it.
I stood up for myself and stopped letting other people's behavior get me down.
I started taking better care of myself physically, mentally and emotionally with the help of doctors, a naturopath and counsellor.
I started a fun new hobby...making jewelery.

Moved to a bigger house! We are still renting, but this house is double the size of our last one, for the same price!!

Got pregnant with my second child!! Baby boy is due in Feb. It took 2.5 years and some frustrating fertility treatments. It has been a tough pregnancy, but it will be worth it! Can't wait to complete our family!

Well, at this point, I am calling it better living through chemistry, lol. This past year and the end of 2011 has been beyond stressful. I'd been seeing a DR. for anti-depressant, but things really got pretty bad in May of this year. Changed Dr.'s and Klonipin has been wonderful. It has been the only thing that has worked to keep my stress level down, at least as much as can be expected.

Also, went back to my counselor after admitting I couldn't handle all the changes and all that was happening in my life. This has helped immensely.

In June, I moved out of my house, which had bad memories and it just felt like it was bad Karma...

I have finally "let go" as a mother and my daughter is doing so, so well on her own, with her job and just living her life without Mom there to take care of everything. I'm so proud of her, and that I was finally able to accept she is grown and I can live my life, too. Although, I will say, I thought it was going to be the death of me in the beginning. I am super proud of her.

And, I suppose last but not least, I finally have finally taken action to do something about my situation at work. Finally have some pretty important and helpful upper management people that believe in me and see everything for what it is. It's still stressful, but, am hoping that soon all will work out as it should.

I hope I am able to make more positive changes as 2013 rolls around!

I decided not to go back to work this year. I had a post asking where a good place to work as a mom and a lot of you had great answers but I think I'm going to wait until next school year to work again. I like being home and we can afford it but there are times when we could use extra money.

After 13 years as a SAHM, I got a part time job. I work 3 hours a day M-F so it's just enough to earn a little extra money but doesn't take me away from home and family too much.

Also gave up Diet Coke in February and haven't had one since (or any soda for that matter).

Like others, I give up smoking and I lost 60 lbs. I still have a lot of weight to loose, but it has given me a different outlook on life and how I go about presenting myself. Since both of my children are basically out of the house (one lives here but is never home) it has given me the time, energy and money to devote to myself. Haircuts, makeup etc.

Plus I have also decided that some things just are not worth the time of worrying about them. DH and I both have decided that our extra time and money is going for trips for us. You just never know how much time you have left, so we are making the most of what we have. We do not want any regrets.

I was out of work the end of last year and got a job Jan 3rd. I HATED it. Stressed me out immensely.

End of March my 6 year relationship with the man I thought I'd spend the rest of my life with ended. I moved in with my parents.

I went into a tailspin. Lost ten pounds that I did not need to lose. Sunk into a depression. Harassed the ex-boyfriend. Hated my job even more.

During the summer I took the initiative (not like me) to talk to the office manager about moving positions. It wasn't available until August.

In August I moved positions. Still work a very little of the job position that I HATE, but job was better. September they added more to me that I LOVE. October added more that I LOVE.

Moving positions changed my life. I still have a lot that is bad in my life, but am so much happier than I was six months ago. I've finally moved on from the ex, don't feel sick every morning when I wake up to go to work, and am in general a happier, back to myself person. And *I* did it. Not anyone else. Me.

Getting serious with my Art projects and opening my Etsy shop. Not making a killing, but some surprise sales have kept up my momentum! It's hard not getting a paycheck (resigned from teaching after May 2011 to stay home with Thing 3), but this project with my Etsy shop (and a few sales at a local gallery) have helped me not go stir-crazy.

Rigorous Aerobic/exercise schedule. Even if the last 15pounds don't come off, it's stress relief and I feel better.

I've learned, am still learning how to be content with where I'm at, what I have and who I am. I've learned happiness is based on circumstances and most of the time I don't have control over my circumstances (for example being married and having to move somewhere I didn't plan on being...ever)
What I do have control over is my attitude. That is a choice.
I'm reading Linda Dillow's Calm My Anxious Heart and in there she used a missionary woman's 5 statements for the way to be content.
1. Never allow yourself to complain about anything-not even the weather
2. Never picture yourself in any other circumstances or some place else.
3. Never compare you lot with another's.
4. Never allow yourself to wish this or that had been otherwise.
5. Never dwell on tomorrow-remember that tomorrow is God's, not ours.

This woman was a missionary alongside her husband, in Africa, for 52 years! This is a place that got so hot they had to bring the thermometer inside because it would break after it reached 120 degrees.
That is just one condition she lived with daily.
I realize many would/could argue with this list but the message is basically "Bloom where you're planted" which is something I used to hate to read. I had my own head and heart full of arguments and would voice them regularly to the Lord (and anyone else who would listen) Truly choosing to be content has changed my heart and my life...it is continuing to change me daily.

I highly encourage all of you to pick up this book and read it!

Happy Saturday!!

I gave up artificial sweeteners (haven't had any "soda" since July 30), gave up "processed foods", cut waaaaay back on sugar consumption, and have lost 21 pounds so far. I know I need to add in daily exercise, but just haven't gotten "there" yet. I am thankful that my husband is on the same wavelength. He has lost over 70 pounds in the time that I have lost 21, but that is OK. We'll get healthier together!

I took control of my own happiness and attitude towards my life and it's made a huge difference to me. It dawned on me that I was letting my health control me and spending far too much time feeling sorry for myself.
It's scary how much this

don't really eat orally, anymore. Food and I had to part ways

sums up my situation too. Yes it still sucks but I decided I couldn't let it stop me being happy and living my life to the fullest. I now try and find as much joy in every situation as I possibly can and my life is pretty great just now.

Lost 30 pounds (and will lose the last 20-ish soon!)

Studied 'clean eating' and began to embrace its 'rules' (although I have a long way to go)

Finally started taking cooking classes - that was one of my goals for the year. So happy I did it!

Turned back to God - never 'left' but I haven't gone to church or studied or prayed like I should for a long time, and I wanted to change it.

Reconnected with a college guy friend I had a crush on after 15 years....and while it's very early, I'm very happy for the first time in a long time, and excited about the possibilities. And he's a Harley riding, tattoo having, church Deacon. Just enough sugar & spice to hold my attention.
