When I was younger I could drink and drink and drink. And I did.

In the last few years, I can have one beer or half of a coctail/margarita and my face turns blood red, splotchy, and burns like I have a 104 fever.

So I Googled...

Everything I've found said that it indicates an increased risk/chance of esophageal cancer.

From personal experience even very recently -

Google is NOT your friend when it comes to medical conditions. You are always one foot in the grave/dying.

Exactly. According to Google, I've had cancer, hand/foot/mouth disease, and psoriasis.

Sounds more like alcohol allergy/intolerance. Google that.

That sounds like a reaction to sulfites. See what google has to say about that.

What they've all said. Five years ago I googled my symptoms and it all pointed to pancreatic cancer. I was too terrified to call a doctor until the pain was unbearable. Turns out it was a gall bladder problem.

Also sounds like it could be rosacea. The internet can scare you to death when looking up medical issues.

Yeah, the Internet info can give you what we used to call "Nursing Student Brain Tumor."

Apparently, I'm an Asian with an alcohol intolerance who's bordering on becoming a cancer patient.

It does sound like I may have developed an intolerance, or I just drank so much before that I became tolerant and I'm no longer.

This is what I was going to suggest. I have a fairly mild case of rosacea, but alcohol sometimes triggers it.

Or perhaps you've developed an intolerance or allergy to alcohol. . That whole, horses and zebras thing...

What you have is an alcohol intolerance, not esophageal cancer. Chronic alcoholics do have an increased risk for that type of cancer because of the erosion of the esophagus.

So if you can't tolerate the drinking, I'd say ultimately you'll have LESS risk, not more.

If it's all alcohol, it's not sulfites. It's the alcohol itself. If it's just certain alcohols, you may still be able to tolerate something like vodka, if you really want to be able to have a few mixed drinks. My sister has a sulfa/sulfite allergy and can't drink wine, but she can drink beer and most mixed drinks.

Web MD is a little more trust worthy ... If you have already seen someone.

except I was twice! the most recent was my gal stones that spread an infection to my appendix and my liver. I was in bad shape by the time I figured out what is was and four trips to the ER. I came home and googled everything. I nearly passed out when the attacks were so severe and went back in and they diagnosed the infection then.

I second Web MD! 10 years ago, it saved my life - literally!

They have changed their search features so it's not quite so user-friendly, but I'd still go there first!

Google can be a scary thing when researching medical stuff.

However, Google helped me diagnose my dh with Lyme Disease when the doctors couldn't figure out why he was in pain and unable to walk.

Hmm, I rarely drink these days and when I do it's typically the same thing. Corona, vodka/juice, Bud Light Limearita, or a margarita. I notice it most with margaritas but it could be that they are made stronger, maybe?

I get the Asian Flush too. I dont drink much, so it's not an problem with me.

I think, what I read, said that it's due to how some Asian people (and, well, me, I guess) metabolize liquor. Cancer would become more of an issue if I drank more.

Do you have a gluten intolerance? Some alcohol contains gluten.

I never drank much as a young adult but developed an alcohol allergy, maybe to sulfites, as Tina metioned. I wouldn't continue drinking if I were you. It's been about 40 years since I had a drink and I'm still avoiding it. The risk is not worth the short term enjoyment to me.
