For DH, we're getting close for him at 7 years in this house.
I lived in my parents current house for 18 years, so it'll be awhile for me.
My mom has lived there for 37 years. Her car is 35 and she's been a lunch lady for 35 years as well. Not much changes in her life! She is retiring this year though at age 77.
Are you more the type that moves around a lot (whether job related or not) or do you prefer to stay in one place?

|Posted: 11/27/2012 11:16:17 AM|I lived in the home I grew up in for 15 years, coming back for a few months at a time here and there.
The second longest would be the place we currently live in, for just over five years.
Since we've been married, we've lived in eight different places. I lived in more places than that before I was married.
I think I'm just about done moving, now we need to decide where to plant some roots .

almost 15 years in my current house. I signed a contract to build a small starter house 8 months after graduating from college and moved in 6 months later. I didn't expect to be here more than 5 years, but now can't imagine moving unless I actually get married.

DH & I have been in our home a little over 24 yrs. We've looked at other houses over the yrs, but never found one that enticed us to move(that was at a price we were willing to pay). It's the longest I've ever been in one place--my Dad was military so we moved a lot. DH grew up in the same house from 9 mos old til he moved away at 18. He and his brother now own the house as a rental.

We are coming up on 15 years in our house with no plans to move until health necessitates.
My parents lived in the house I grew up in close to 40 years until my father died. My mother has lived in her condo now 11 years and again, will stay there until health necessitates a move.
My dh lived in the house he primarily grew up in for 17 years. My FIL is still in that house for 35 years. My MIL passed away last year. He is considering moving but no concrete plans yet.
DH & I both went into our current house purchase with the mindset of a "forever" home. Most of our friends have moved between 2-5 times within their marriages that began around the same time ours did.

I've lived in our current house for 13-1/2 years, and in our current town for over 18 years. That's the longest I've lived in a town. I lived in my first childhood house for about 15 years, so that holds the record for longest time in a particular house.

We are moving to a new house in a nearby town in the next couple of months. It will be a rental home and we plan to be there for about a year, giving us time to become accustomed to the area and learn about different areas of the city to help us make an informed decision about where to buy, and hope to be in THAT house for many, many years!

childhood home - 18 years full time, then summers and breaks for 5 years.
2 yrs college dorm
1 year apartment near college
2 years college apartments
2 years condo with dh while he was getting his PhD
Current house since dec 2007 - when we bought it we decided we wanted to buy for the next 30 years, not the next five years. We have tons of space and land, we are near both sets of parents, we love the location (same area we both grew up in), and we have a great community.
Dh's parents are still in his childhood home and my parents are still in theirs. I hope our kids will get to live in our house all of their growing up - minus the year or two we hope to rent it out and live overseas at some point.

The longest I have lived in one house was 12 years. It's the house my parents live in now. The longest DH and I have lived in a house will be the one we are in now. We are going on our 5th year here and it looks like we will be moving in the summer. Which isn't soon enough for me. We'll be in the next place for about three years, then DH and I will pick a place to settle down and hopefully never move again.
