Loc: I'm a TEXAS girl now!!

SO & I have finally set a wedding date for next year. We are still at the beginning stages of planning, but I'm trying to deal with things as I think of them.

Today, I'm thinking about bridesmaids-- I have asked my 2 oldest friends. The only problem is that I live in Texas (where wedding will be held), 1 friend lives in NY & 1 friend lives in NC.

Anybody have any suggestions as to where we can look for dresses other than David's Bridal? I spent some time cruising their website today and found NOTHING that I liked. I don't want to make things difficult for my friends, who will already be going way out of their way for me, so I'm hoping for a national chain of some sort.

Anybody know of any others that you can suggest?

I bought fabric and gave them a general idea of what I wanted - ie. length and the fabric - and then had them get their dresses made. I was in CA, I had 3 bridesmaids in CA, one in OH, one in CO, and one in MA. I think that my sister is the only one that spent more than $100 on hers - and I know it was less than $200. They all ended up with dresses that fit them beautifully and that they were happy with the style. I was so happy!!

That said I have been in two weddings that used Aria Dresses one I loved my dress the other not so much. But I think that had more to do with the brides' fabric and color choices.

They can send you dresses to try sizes, they have locations all over, and with both cases I just sent in my measurements and neither dress needed any alterations.

It is nice because when you order the dresses together they come from the same dye lot and even though the styles might be very different they look beautiful together because of the same fabric/color.

Give David's a second chance. I didn't want to use them either, but they came through for me in a big way. They had the sizes we needed (24 on one end, 10 on the othe end), and they even added a dress last minute. The style I picked wasnt super trendy, but it was flattering on all sizes and that's the most important thing.

Both of my nieces used David's Bridal. They seemed happy with them.

Another idea would be to let the bridal party know the color you would like the dresses to be and let them choose for themselves. That is if you do not mind the dresses not being the exact same one. A friend told her bridal party the color and that she wanted the dresses to be no more than tea length. Her friends picked out the dresses they wanted and loved the idea that their dress would not hang in a closet after spending a couple of hundred dollars. I think one bridesmaid got her dress for around $20 on clearance. Just a thought.

Have you looked at J. Crew? They have a brick-and-mortar bridal store in NY, but not NC. Everything can be ordered online, though.

JCrew has really nice and affordable dresses. Also, most of them are wearable for other occasions besides weddings.
Congratulations!

Alfred angelo is what i used. I found a color i liked and them told them to pick anything in that color. The line is big enough to be at most large independent stores and they also have stores here and there

My daughter is also getting married next year. We are in Tennessee, her maid of honor is in Georgia and she has two bridesmaids in PA and one here. We are using David's Bridal for the simple convience. She is picking the color and the material and they each get to pick the dress they want.

I also highly recommend J. Crew.

Nordstom. My daughter had bridesmaids from all over the country. One person at Nordstrom handled all of the bridesmaids. It was an easy process.

I second Etsy as an option. My bridal party all lived far apart and so we all chose a dress (from a bunch of options online) and Etsy was the winner! The seller made the dress in my colour (she first mailed me a bunch of fabric samples to chose from - so as not to rely on photos) and the dresses were much like the TwoBirds Bridesmaids dresses but much much cheaper

While my bridesmaid dresses were all handmade, I wanted a dress for 3 women who were my ushers. It was easy since they wore black. I found their dresses at JCPenney. The best past was the dresses were great and they each used them for other events. I would check out the following stores online sites:

JCPenney
Macy's
Nordstrom
Sears (YES! They even have formal wear!)

Good luck!!
