I live in Washington, which, at midnight last night, began issuing licenses for same-sex couples to get married. Two of my colleagues are marrying their longtime partners this weekend (one of the couples has been together for 30 years and has raised two now-adult children). I'm feeling all happy and festive that this tremendous civil rights victory has occurred in my lifetime. If you had told teen me that I would get to see this, I would have said, no way.
So, come in here and throw confetti and eat cake. Cake for everyone! | |

Just got a notice on Facebook from our county. Same sex marriage licenses can be picked up now for January weddings. This is in Western Maryland (Garret). Glad we are progressing in this little backwoods county. (now just let us buy booze on Sunday lol) |

I am sad to live in such a closed minded state sometimes. Utah will be one of the last to do this. It's a shame. So I will happily celebrate with the other states one by one, until it happens for everyone.

A HUGE congratulations to all the couples who can finally share in the rights and protections of marriage. I married my beautiful wife in Iowa in '09 when they made it legal there. Sadly, in our home state we have no rights, since Arkasnas doesn't recognize our marriage... but it's baby steps to full equality. No group in history was handed full rights in a day. It's one step at a time and we aren't giving up hope.  |

Well, I stayed up late on election night to celebrate Minnesota NOT making same sex marriages SUPER DUPER EXTRA MAYA illegal with the marriage amendment (since it is already illegal they wanted to add it to the state constitution that marriage is between one man and one woman). Now I am hoping the Catholic church's master plan (since they were the driving force on this amendment in this state) to instate the amendment backfires on them, and in the next few years, we can make gay marriage legal.
The tide has shifted.

Proud to be a resident of Washington state and loving all the stories and pictures of couples getting their marriage licenses. My favorite is Jane (age 77) and Pete-e (age 85) who have been together for 35 years. They thought they would die before they could get married - I am so glad they now have the opportunity.

Well, they also couldn't get statehood in until they renounced polygamy. It's ok. However we have to get there. No one said it would be easy.
