the only crackers/cookies we ever had in the house were Ritz Crackers, Nilla Wafers, Fig Newtons and Chips Ahoy Cookies (which were always stale BTW, because no one liked to eat them but my mom). blech!! can't eat/stand the smell of any of those to...this...day. for the longest time, i always thought that chocolate chip cookies only came hard. imagine the heaven of having fresh baked, soft chewy cookies. as an adult, that's the only kind of cookie i like.

Day old bread! My gramma used to buy it 10 loaves at a time.  I don't even eat much bread but if I do, it has to be fresh!

When I was 14 or so, my dad took my younger brother and I on vacation - he drove to Disney, which took a couple days. At one point, we were beyond starving and stopped at Arby's, and asked him to get each of us like 2 or 3 roast beef sandwiches, and he said if he bought all that, we'd have to eat it. So he followed through and made us eat them, and by the end, we were both feeling like we'd die or throw up or both. To this day, I can't eat roast beef cold cuts, and I won't go into an Arby's.
Also cream of wheat. That was forced down my throat as a kid, and if I tried to eat it, I'm sure I'd throw up. | |

for years.
I had issues with cheese sandwiches too, but more because of a traumatic incident than having too many. |

My parents still live next door to a potato farmer. We had mashed potatoes EVERY night for supper! I will eat them now but for awhile there I avoided them like the plague. |

bologna, ham salad in a can, any processed meat really. bland cereal, powdered milk, pop tarts. ramen noodles, eggs cooked in a microwave. can't stand casseroles, or having my food mixed up on a plate. | |

My grandma was a big collector, so I liked them as a little kid. Well, those became the go to gift for me from everyone in the family. I have hundreds packed away in boxes in my closet. Hundreds. And I hate them all, they're so cheesy. | |

I LOVE government cheese!!!! It is great for grilled cheese.
My parents believed that kids should eat what was served. To this day I can't eat seafood because my mom insisted shrimp curry and clam chowder should go into the regular dinner rotation. NONE of the kids would eat these things. Who wants have kids refusing to eat their dinner 3 times a week? Doesn't that take away from the joy of dinner? If I even try to eat crab, lobster, etc. my gag reflex kicks in. |

You all are going to laugh 'cause I've heard how you wax rhapsodic over steaks and such, but, for me, it's beef. I grew up on a farm and we raised our own meat, mostly beef but some chicken and pork as well. But it's the beef that I'm just tired of. I guess I wouldn't say I can't stand it, but it's just not something I really care for much.

this is funny.  I tried to think of something but really couldn't come up with anything. Except maybe powdered milk. I can only remember the taste and know I would NEVER drink it. I can even remember how it smells. Don't even know if they make that anymore. | |

See now, we used to have that stuff made (big fat salami too) and I loved it. But we also made our own bread, so it was a big slab of bread with a big slab of meat. So Good!!!

Hot dogs and bologna...and white sandwich bread. Other than fresh bread or Texas toast I really dislike white sandwich bread after eating it everyday for lunch.
Oh, and tuna casserole and frozen veggies. Mom would fix stofers frozen beans or what ever and they came out of the freezer in a frozen square block right into the boiling pot of water...ick. | |

Oranges.
My mom made us eat an orange every day all year long because she said the Vitamin C would help us stay healthy. But oranges out of season are gross. I won't eat them now at all and neither will my sister. blech!
also hard pears. I have n idea why my mom would buy the hardst flipping pears on the planet. We never had a nice, soft, juicy pear. I remember going to a friend's house and they had regular pears and I ate like 3 at one time b/c I could notbelieve how tasty they were. But my mom would only buy ones that were as hard as a rock and hurt your gums to bite. |

Also mom made chocolate chip cookies with some kind of fake chocolate chips. Not carob, but something that said imitation chocolate on the bag. Now I'm a chocolate chip/chunk snob. |

Popcorn shrimp, fish sticks and french fries. The only meal my father could cook...and my mother was frequently away on the weekends participating in craft fairs and harvest festivals.
I don't mind fries with anything else, but I can't have that much brown on my plate in one sitting anymore. | |

Roast. Roast beef, roast pork, roasted chicken. My dad didn't like casseroles, so mom didn't make any, but she'd throw a piece of meat in the oven and roast it away until suppertime. Salt, pepper. Sometimes potatoes carrots and onions (depending on what she had on hand. No other spices. And she'd cook the chicken (bone-in skin-on) covered in the oven with no spices at all. The skin was flabby and gross, the chicken was just chicken. I don't know why she never seasoned anything, and it would have been easy-peasy to take the cover off that chicken and let the skin brown and crisp, but alas. . .
The first time I called my mom and asked her what kind of beef roast I should buy there was a long pause at the other end of the line. She knew I hated roast. |

Bulgur salad and lentil soup. My mom made bulgur salad all spring long and lentil soup all fall long.
I can feel the vomit rising to even hear people talk about those foods. BLECK!

Mowing! My mom is a landlord and she made me and my sister mow rental house yards every Saturday of the summer. For months on end we spent entire 8 or 10 hour days mowing multiple rental house yards. I no longer mow. I have mowed maybe once in the last 17 years.

Fig bars but never Fig Newtons. Always the generic black and white package ones.
Plaid. Eight years of blue/grey plaid jumpers.
Baked potatoes. Every single night for dinner. Couldn't eat them for years.
Iceberg lettuce with vegetable oil and vinegar with salt and pepper. I didn't know salad dressing came I flavors or a bottle for YEARS!
I don't think I ate a casserole until I went to college. My dad hates them so we never, ever had one. Meat and potatoes with a "salad" every night of my life. |

Doughnuts. I worked in a doughnut shop when I was 16. My clothes smelled like doughnuts, my hair smelled like doughnuts, my wool coat smelled like doughnuts. People would walk by my locker in school and wonder what kind of goodies I had brought, because they could smell the damned doughnuts. I'm pushing 50, and I still don't eat doughnuts. |

Cleaning.
My mom woke me up at 7 am every Saturday to clean the house. And I had to hear the ENTIRE time about how she had been scrubbing on her hands and knees since 4 am.
I like a clean home now, but I will NEVER do that do my children. And sometimes I don't vacuum on purpose! |

Diet or caffeine-free soda or generic soda (although we do buy the HEB brand with cane sugar). My parents ONLY bought diet-caffeine-free-generic drinks. Ugh! I swore that no matter how poor I am I will have real Dr. Pepper and Coke!
On the other hand, my parents refused to buy Lunchables when I was young because they were "just like lunch meat, cheese and crackers if you cut them up and put them in a Tupperware". Um, not when you're the only kid in elementary school without them! Lol! So now I buy them for dd anytime she needs to take a sack lunch (field trip, etc) and sometimes for myself! They're awful, but darn it I CAN! Lol!! | |

M&M's. I had some in one of those coin operated candy machines, it was a Christmas gift one year. I ate so many of them to the point of having to regurgitate them. I can have them in small doses now, but I am still careful about how many I eat. |

Baths. We didn't have a shower when I was growing up, it was always baths, and my parents made me and my two siblings share bathwater. If you were third in, it was already cold and dirty. I just don't find anything about a bath relaxing thanks to that. Hot shower for me every day. I don't even like having a tub in a bathroom because it's a waste of space! |

Mrs. Grass noodle soup and hot dogs - my Mom worked on saturdays and this was the only thing my Dad could cook (and since it was so easy to make, as soon I was old enough to operate the stove by myself making it became my job every saturday)

OMG! I have a similar story. I was beyond starving, I was old enough to drive and picked up an Arby's roast beef. Got stuck in the snow and it was the only thing I had to eat for hours. I still could not force that hideous sandwich down my throat, it was so disgusting.
To this day I will not walk into an Arby's and my kids and ALL their friends know the story (and point out every Arby's we see to me).

OTOH, I cannot go to the dentist without wanting a tuna sandwich and a milkshake, which my mom always made for me. I totally did that to my kids (we never otherwise have tuna) and now they expect it all the time after dental appts |
