I saw this on my FB feed and am so saddened if it is true. Story says it was an apparent suicide.

That's terrible! That poor nurse.

I am confused, is that how the world found out she was pregnant, or was that after the pregnancy was announced and they called and tricked the nurse after the fact?

It's true. It's in the British press with name, photos etc.

I despise pranks, and this is the ultimate example of why.

I hope those radio jerks have a hard time living with this.

That is so sad. When I got my breaking news alert, I thought it would say that she was fired.

Sad how a prank can turn tragic.

I googled and saw several stories, so I'm guessing it is true. What a shame that this poor woman was driven to that. I wonder if she was being harassed? I mean, I know it started as a prank, but maybe people were really upset and giving her a hard time.
So sad, and not that is acceptable at any time of the year, it is the holidays and I feel for her family having to deal with this now.

The sad thing is that Kate herself will probably have a hard time with this as well, as she was an innocent party to the whole thing.

The pregnancy was announced when Kate was admitted to hospital.

The prank call was the next day I think, the Australian DJs called the hospital, pretended to be the queen and were put through to the ward.

The nurse spoke to them and gave some information (nothing really that wasn't known anyway- ie she was on a IV and resting)

That poor woman.

I lurk on a royalty forums site and on the thread related to DoC's pregnancy, many people were saying she should be fired and calling her stupid etc.

Exactly. Just what she doesn't need right now. I don't envy that woman. Except the jewels lol, but really I can't imagine being hounded like that and then to have this.

It was the switchboard who failed IMO, not the nursing staff.

With such a high profile patient, it should have been referred to the palace staff who would have been there not the nursing staff.

This hospital is the one that the royal family have used for generations. They should know the Queen would not call a switchboard herself.

there were several failures, none of which was the nurse's. If the call got as far as the ward, it could be assumed as real .

Very sad. One would have to have a really thick skin to deal with the press this nurse was receiving. It's a shame to think she couldn't see a way out or understand that the attention would die down as soon as something else dominated the press cycle.

2DayFM is the radio station I usually listen to. Haven't had the desire to listen to the prank call. Certainly won't now. My heart goes out to the nurse's family.

It was security and leadership in the hospital who failed, IMO. I am 100% certain policies were in place to handle this, but no one was following up to make sure people were following the rules and to let them know how patient conditions would be communicated out to concerned/interested parties.

I think it's too early to comment. She could have died of natural causes and just a strange coincidence in timing. Or she could have been fired from the hospital after the call and that caused her distress, that info hasn't been released yet.

if she killed herself over a prank phone call then she had way bigger problems.

The reports I've read have said that the hospital has been supporting her through this. I think a lot of the comments made online about her have been pretty vicious, and may have been a contributing factor. I hope not, but I'm afraid it possibly was.

It is truly sad if that is why she did it.

But she just routed the call. She had NOTHING to do with anything. She was not stupid or anything. She routed a call.

The nurse in question should never have given out information.

But what a shame that it is okay to things like this. What a shame.

How absolutely horrible and tragic!

There may be parts I am missing, but there was nothing I read that was terribly private or would have brought shame/embarrassment to either the Duchess or the Royal Family. We knew WHAT she was in the hospital for and sharing that she had not been retching or was sleeping wasn't even interesting, let alone something to be persecuting this poor woman over.

I do not know why on earth people were being so cruel to her after the fact.

Not a clue if there is anything that can be done to those DJs, but I hope at the very least they are fired!

I missed that info, then perhaps it's unrelated.

I noticed that Kate was holding flowers over her belly when she left, made me curious why she would hide her bump when we know she's pregnant and since she's so early on there probably wouldn't be a bump, especially in a coat.

Just because you can manage to circumvent security doesn't mean you should.

The callers knew they were doing something wrong. They misrepresented their identities. They should be held accountable.

How horribly tragic. She must have felt terribly embarassed for being duped and like she had somehow betrayed her Queen, but she really did nothing that wrong...she put through the call to the nurse, that is all!! Who knows what people said to her or how she was treated afterwards. I bet Kate and William feel terrible about this!

I think someone simply gave her flowers and that is how she has been taught to carry them, pregnant or not.

The callers went beyond the pale. Leave people the hell alone.

It brings to mind whether this was a sense of honor felt so strongly by this nurse on behalf of the monarchy in England? As an American I don't know if it's taken so seriously but it crossed my mind.

She very well may have had other problems where this may have pushed her over the edge and if so it's just that much more sad.

And sad for the Dutchess who is ailing anyway and has this weighing on her mind.

OK. Newbie. This is how it works. If your post consists of 80% sanity, 10% stupidity and 10% all kinds of crazy, we immediately focus on the 20% b/c it discredits the 80%.

What kind of sentence does "putting a phone call through" carry in England anyways? Death penalty?

Seriously, exactly what did she do that was so terrible she should be fired?

Exactly what I was going to say. She had to have other issues if something like this could make her take her own life. It was terribly embarrassing I'm sure, but not worth taking your own life, (nothing is) especially if you have children. Just tragic.

From the way it is being reported on the BBC, it seems very clear that the police consider it a suicide. The Hospital has also released a statement, and she was not fired over this.

What the heck? This is all speculation at this point. They don't know for a fact that this woman killed herself, and they sure as heck don't know that she did it because she got tricked my some idiotic radio prank. Most people are not going to kill themselves because they get duped. If it turns out she did commit suicide, she had bigger problems than just this one incident. Not defending what the radio hosts did, because it was for sure stupid, but to pin the blame for this womans death on them is a bit of an overreaction.

So sad.

And while the circumstances of her death have not yet been released and I know nothing of this woman's history, I wanted to comment on this:

people who kill themselves are previously disturbed

This is an irresponsible statement (not that I expect more from you). A person can go blithely through life and hit with something so unexpected and devasting that suddenly the only option they see is suicide. A parent who accidentally kills their own child (i.e. car accident, etc...) an innocent person accused of child molestation, people who are trafficked, people living in war torn countries that are routinely tortured, terminally ill people in horrific pain. There are countless unimaginable events that can change a person's life in the blink of an eye.

I know you're just a troll and I should ignore your callous idiocy, but sometimes people can be driven to taking their own life without a prior history of being "disturbed".
