Due to the holiday break, I've spent a little more time than usual wandering through galleries and forums. I've started thinking about what those same galleries and forums will look like a year from now.

What would you like to see more of in 2013? Less of?

I would like to see:

- MORE simple yet innovative techniques. I love the feeling of looking at a page and thinking, "I want to try that! Hey, I CAN try that. Now."

- MORE journaling -- including ideas for journaling by hand, as terrifying as that can be sometimes.

- MORE ideas for how to scrap everyday life for those who can't scrap every day.

- MORE of an emphasis on process and pleasure. I am not quite sure where "efficiency" rightfully belongs in the scrapbooking world, or whether it stands in contrast with an exploratory, experimental sense of creativity. Deep thoughts. Ouch.

- LESS talk about wanting to trash one's stash and throw in the mist-stained towel. This always makes me sad. We should be welcoming scrappers to the fold, not bidding them farewell.

- MORE encouraging comments for those who share projects in galleries. Let's tend to the growth of all peas!

How about you? What would you like to see more of/less of in the coming year?

Process videos that explain why they are choosing to put certain papers, elements, etc. in certain places.

An explanation of "why" a design works: visual triangles, reading position, mixed typography, etc. For those of us without a graphic design background, I want to know how someone makes something work. And if that LO is by a non-graphic designer, how did they learn what makes a LO look "right"?

I'd also like to see a little bit of older product mixed in with new. Maybe a process video on how to mix manufacturers and collections. Nowadays several manus overlap their color palette with other manus so this should be relatively easy to do, right?

I would love to see a return to handwritten journaling (I've always done that) and how to do gradations of color with mists and inks. I'd really love to see more than one or two photos on a page. I'm not a fan of overwhelming amounts of white space and single photo LOs. More photos, more color would be great!

Less: less PL pages.

Good question!!

MORE - Layouts with real life photos and more photos on the layouts. While I appreciate the beauty of the one great photo, not all of life happenings can be captured with just one photo.

LESS - Product vomit. I don't know how else to explain it. It sounds awful and again while I appreciate the showcasing of the product lines (because it gives some fantastic ideas to those of us who struggle to use what we buy *coughcoughMEcoughcough*) I just want to see every day scrapbooking.

I would like to see less promoting of other scrapbooking sites, turning customers away from purchasing here at Two Peas.

This is a BUSINESS. If we want these forums to continue and also to keep getting fantastic FREE classes ie Glitter Girl, we need to stop turning sales away from here.

This is the one thing that bothers me the most about these forums and not a day goes by without me wanting to scream at the people doing it! I sure hope it changes in 2013.

Vent over lol.

MORE fun projects from the Peas. I spend a good half hour every morning in the gallery. Keep those ideas coming, people!

MORE support of one another's projects including comments on projects. This is something I'm working on rather than just bookmarking my favorites.

LESS pressure to feel like I have to be caught up, or my design has to be perfect. Just MORE relaxed enjoyment of this hobby.

MORE fun stuff from the GG's, which I've seen a sneak peek of and you will be VERY happy with what Jamie has planned this year. Just sayin'!

Lots of good thoughts here

I would like MORE challenges and interactive scrap days where we would complete hourly challenges and post and get feedback from those participating (Hey lets do one this weekend, a great way to send off the old year and start the new don't ya think?)

Like other here, I would like see MORE detailed videos, and agree 100% with more info on why choices are made to put certain items together, and why a design works. I am having a difficult time catching on to some of the "newer" trends in scrapbooking, and seem to stick to my same old style.

MORE MORE MORE of just about everything I say. Lets all make 2013 a great scrapbooking year!

I would like to see more of the simple. Show me how a design team member would actually scrap her own photos if she did NOT have a manufacturer supplying her with stuff, but rather had to buy it herself. A lot of the stuff I see is VERY cost prohibitive, and the point seems to be "how much product can I show" instead of "here's the story". I realize that a lot of people scrap for the creative outlet, but as for me personally, well, that's what I want to see.

mmm great question--I have been thinking of my own scrapping style and why i don't upload more of my projects here on gallery.. I think most of is--I'm on a strict budget and don't always have the newer products to show and feel that many may not want to see it, i feel that mine are too simple and not that likeable.., or it get lost in gallery. i do try to comments on people's projects but I can barely keep up sometime.

Also, little less on cameo which I know is a big wow right now but for me being on tight budget and would love to one day get but I don't have in budget sometime it's hard to scraplift that layout when everything is base on cameo items...

More on stamping--i love nichol's vidoes but would love others take on their own stamping idea using various stamps out there...

journalings--either style..how to.. i really struggle with this. I don't know if it's because of my fear of grammers--which is horrible.. ugh

project life products on layouts not as project life itself--

more positive feedback--more items in stock because by the time I'm ready to order alot of what i want are out... that i do have to go elsewhere to get it sometime Also--I don't mind other posted about other businesses that offer specific products that Two peas don't offer here---or is out of stock and don't know when they will get that specific products in..

combining older stash with new stash--my favorite trend

process videos--one of my favorite because sometime I look at layouts and go mmm why did she do that? why does that work? etc...

that's all i can think of right now...

Jill, your LESS list was even more inspiring than your MORE list - which is so inspiring.

Well, I browsed my pins and bookmarks so I could give an educated answer. (Great post btw!)

I want MORE:
bright colors
Silhouette techniques
pics on pages
story telling ideas
-I'm all for more praise in the gallery, too!

I want LESS:
I don't know, I'll have to think more on this one, but I think less griping and meanness in the forums wouldn't hurt for sure.

MORE Using what I have. (Perhaps using common items in one's stash to create trendy looks.)

MORE Using my own handwriting on layouts. Dealing with the fact that it isn't perfect and that it is more authentic when writing it myself.

LESS Hesitation in design. Just do it. It will all work out in the end.

MORE:

Process videos (like GG)
Technique inspirations and examples- like for using stencils, masks, sprays
Art journaling inspiration

Great thread, Jill, and wonderful feedback from the Peas.

More process videos:
With explanations and why the design works;
Mix of old and new product-we will actually purchase more when using up our stash;
Multi-photos on one page;
Two-page layout or two-page coordinating layouts;
Using products in the Pea store on a layout like HS photo stack, folders, etc.

More acceptance of, and encouragement given to, Peas experiencing a SB "want to throw in the towel" slump. Some of us have been there during our years of scrapping.

More organizational and efficiency ideas for supplies for those who want to create, have "tons" of supplies, but do not have a dedicated SB room/area.

Most of all cultivate an accepting, creative, positive and happy Pea community

I agree. The problem I have though is most people print/make copies of photos to scrap so they resize to fit more when they actually do use a lot of pics. I use my originals (I'm still scrapping film prints and will be for quite awhile!) so it can be more challenging to work with them. I'm not afraid to crop - it's just not always possible.

I'd like to see less fake and/or 'only the best'. Photoshopping because the pic has someone/thing in it you don't want. That's life, people. I want to see people document life the way it happened, not the way they wanted it to happen. That was the great thing about film days (and before scanning and photoshop). What you snapped is what you got!

I love challenges... I'm still learning so much that I appreciate being given a task/direction to start me off... Sometimes I end up changing stuff so much it doesn't match what was asked, but that doesn't matter so much to me... I just like having a starting point and a deadline... I actually have finished projects now!

And I might be the minority on this, but I like the faster paced videos... Once they start explaining why they chose certain elements in *a lot* of detail, I start to think that I'm not thinking enough about what I use and then I second guess myself, set it aside to look at it another day, rethink everything that day... It's just not good for me... I love the, "I picked this because it's 'X', and next I..." type of videos... I need that kind of push, so I'm hoping to find more of those - maybe even just an edited version of a detailed video for those of us that need the quickie edition

Also, a way to add more pictures to a page and still have it 'decorated'... Maybe a way of doing two page LOs where one page had more scrapping on it, and the other had more pictures but wasn't just a boring, full page of them... Like a pretty title page and then the story in pictures... It's one of those things that I know what I want, I just can't get the idea out of my head, so I'd love some sample LOs to start from...

ETA: "Show me how a design team member would actually scrap her own photos if she did NOT have a manufacturer supplying her with stuff, but rather had to buy it herself. A lot of the stuff I see is VERY cost prohibitive." Just saw this and I like this idea too... Something where not every product was new or part of the coordinating set... I can usually afford a few new fancy papers, a couple of packs of new embellishments, and then basic card stocks... Those new things rarely match each other - different lines, colours, styles, etc, because they have to get me through a whole variety of projects... I'd like to see projects made with 90% older or basic supplies and 10% new stuff... I switched from 12x12 to 8x8 so I could get more use out of new products but some things 'need' 12x12... I just don't want a 12x12 album with only three projects in it... (Picky, aren't I? )

First, this:

I would like to see more of the simple. Show me how a design team member would actually scrap her own photos if she did NOT have a manufacturer supplying her with stuff, but rather had to buy it herself. A lot of the stuff I see is VERY cost prohibitive, and the point seems to be "how much product can I show" instead of "here's the story". I realize that a lot of people scrap for the creative outlet, but as for me personally, well, that's what I want to see.

I'd also like to see videos that focus more on multi-photo pages and less embellishment. More journaling ideas and less product over-use. More new faces and ideas - perhaps guest videos done by Peas who aren't designers or professionals. (Not bashing the pros, but it's nice to have variety and to see what others are doing and how they are doing it.)

Less criticizing and more encouraging. I love when I read threads in which people are helping and encouraging one another. I know that life isn't always a bowl of cherries, but many of us come here to get away from "the real world." Disagreeing is fine and healthy; being mean isn't.

More threads like this that ask us what we'd like.

Happy New Year, and thanks for all you do!

I really really really like this idea of MORE encouragement and LESS making someone feel bad about themselves/their scrapbooking. As women, our internal dialogue usually makes us feel bad enough about ourselves. We certainly don't need anyone else to do it for us.

ok. Sorry. Just had to let that out

As a DT member I love hearing what you want to see more/less of! I/we might not be able to cater to everything listed here...but I think most of you will be very happy in 2013

I agree with most everything posted here. I love the design aspect in process videos.

I love to see videos of why/how products are picked and matched. Shimelle does such a great job of this. I also love it when a mix of old and new product is used in process videos. It helps me think outside the box and go through my own stash to mix things up.

MORE projects incorporating stamps. I love my stamps and feel like they are the product that gives me the most bang for my buck.

MORE inspirational videos from the Garden Girls. They've really helped me get back into scrapping this year, and I love the LOs I'm creating!

LESS letter stickers titles - I rarely use these, and I love to see how people create titles using stamps or other methods.

I also agree with these parts of Jen's post:

MORE fun projects from the Peas. I spend a good half hour every morning in the gallery. Keep those ideas coming, people!

MORE support of one another's projects including comments on projects. This is something I'm working on rather than just bookmarking my favorites.

LESS pressure to feel like I have to be caught up, or my design has to be perfect. Just MORE relaxed enjoyment of this hobby.

And I second this from MeMovieGal:

I would like MORE challenges and interactive scrap days where we would complete hourly challenges and post and get feedback from those participating (Hey lets do one this weekend, a great way to send off the old year and start the new don't ya think?)

My brain is not in the thinking mood right now but one thing I would like to see is:

DT members/GG's scrapping an imperfect photo once in a while.

I know Shimelle does it sometimes, but I would like to see more. Life is not perfect. Why do all the photos have to be? Maybe that is why Shimelle is so popular around here?

I'd like to see MORE of Glitter Girl - Shimelle has pushed my boundaries when it comes to using all the pretty stuff I've bought along the way and I always look forward to her videos.

I'd love to see MORE mixing of older and newer stash in GG videos and projects. I understand the purpose is to encourage us to buy all the new stuff but like so many others peas I usually only buy pieces of a collection either because of cost, or already having similar things in my stash or just not my style. As an earlier poster pointed out, colours often work across collections so I think there'd still be lots of opportunities to point us to products that are in store that would work with any older products being used in the project shown.

MORE hybrid projects using some of the digital kits available here. As an international pea I only buy digital product due to prohibitive shipping costs but I'm definitely open to being persuaded to buy and use some of the great digital products here. I'd really love to see some projects using digital papers (like Adrienne Looman's kits *swoon*), not just journal cards.

MORE pea praise on layouts. I'm just as guilty as the next person of looking but not commenting but when I posted to the gallery regularly I always loved seeing praise from the peas. I'm going to be the first person to change my habits on this.

To repeat what some others said:
Less:
-Complaining
-Purging! If I can't bring myself to do it, then none of the rest of you can!
-Cameo/electric diecutter threads... can we get these threads bookmarked, so there aren't so many of them each day... put it all in one place and let's move on!

More:
-Process videos showing/telling the why behind the decisions.
-Process videos showing how to combine old & new.
-Process videos showing stamping and stamping techniques.
-A video series that shows all the GG's organization/scraprooms/organizing tips.
-A video series of 2 page LOs, because doing 1 pagers with 1 photo isn't helping me catch up the last 10 years worth of photos I have

-Some type of "kit"
-More videos like NSD where you use it all till it's gone!

Great thread, Jill.

I would like to see less:

- criticism of other people's scrapbooking. I find phrases like "product vomit" and insulting the use of Instagram photos as being "awful and ugly" to be unnecessary.

I'd love MORE:

- focus on other Garden Girls! I know we all love Shimelle -- and for good reason, she is talented and brilliant and very sweet -- but I sometimes feel like the rest of the GG go a bit overlooked!

- community involvement from all of the Peas! Post a question, post a reply. Speak up and get involved. I want more vocal Peas!

- giving back! If you post your blog on the daily bloggers thread, please leave comments on the other blogs. If you want to see more two page layouts, why not post a thread here about them and maybe link up to one or two recent ones you've seen in the gallery that you like? If you want to see more old product used in combination with new product, post feedback and positive replies when you see this done.

I love one or two picture layouts. So many people are saying that they don't want them but that is about 90% of what I scrap.

I want more process videos that have Glitter Girl production values. Even though I don't share Shimelle's style, hers are so pleasant to listen to and watch.

Agree: More mixing old with the new. How to do it - How to blend the old and new together.

More: Scrapping with 4x6 photos
Scrapping with vintage childhood and/or heritage photos
Journaling prompts or challenges to encourage storytelling
Games and group scraps.

Less: I'll have to think about it. Just because I don't like specific styles or type of pages doesn't mean everyone else should. I guess I'd just enjoy seeing a mixture of everything!

The General Scrappin' board could perhaps use a weekly "accountability" thread where Peas only post to briefly share what crafty things they've accomplished that week: project progression/completion, organizing efforts, photo printing, sketching, etc. It could serve a purpose sort of like the weekly weigh-ins at Weight Watchers where you feel encouraged to meet goals. I can't be the only one who shamefully allows dust to collect on scrappy supplies due to lack of accountability for how spare time is spent.

And yes, a board dedicated to all things die cutting would be great!

C'mon guys don't be shy tell me how you really feel....
Wow,
I agree with so many things I lost count!!
I bookmarked this thread because your opinions are awesome.
But please tell me that no peas has ever put on someone's projects "product vomit" as a comment. Seriously?
Someone needs an art appreciation class.
I am so guilty of slacking in comments. On the gallery and the bloggs.
I'm really at myself.
Thank you guys for sharing your 2 cents great eye openers.
I want to say less gold but I know this is just starting. I'm not a fan of gold at all.
More journal definitely and more photos.

This is a great thread! I agree with more comments or praise in the gallery. It makes me sad when I see beautiful layouts and not one comment. It didn't used to be that way...
Secondly, LOVE the idea about a Silhouette forum category!
And three, really love SIMPLE, classic layouts that are photo focused, without all the embellishment overload.

Can't wait to see all the exciting things here in the New Year!

I'd like less talk about purging, I mean really I listened to the purging talk and purged so much stuff that I overwhelmed the teacher I gave the stuff to and then I over bought for the rest of the year. I'm just going to use things at my own pace again. If it takes me a while to use it up so be it. I'm not getting rid on things I love anymore, so what if I have 50 of them. I bought them because I like them.

I would love to see more natural scrapping techniques and not the strips of scraps and embellishments I've been seeing. I can't relate to that type of scrapping at all, I love the telling of a story in scrapbooking and complimenting elements. Overall, I hope for a friendlier board to Twopeas and others who share their views. There's a place for it all. I'd love to see the advertising comeback on here, I miss the ads. I'd love it if Twopeas could have it where you hover over a post and a few lines about what it's talking about would come up, like on other boards. I hate clicking on something that I think is interesting only to find the post is totally off the rails.

I'd like to see some classes on page design without focus on a single product line/manufacturer .... Basic layout principles + how to choose products (including from different manufacturers) that work together.
And different stamping techniques, plus multiple ways to make titles (perhaps do same photos/layouts w different techniques)

I think that would help new scrappers and give the 'older ones' new ways to look at products.

I don't post here a lot because I don't feel I have a lot in common with most of the posters. I scrap more traditional 2 pagers with lots of photos. I'd love to see more of that kind of scrapping. I also almost exclusively use sketches. Jen G's Stretch Your Sketch was a great class, I'd love another similar class but maybe focusing on more photos, using stash and how to use the same sketch in different ways.

I'd like to see less focus on product and more focus on design, color. Also, I can appreciate that people love their Cameos, but I don't have one and it seems like the majority of posts on any given day are about someone's Cameo being in the mail.

I would love to see more process videos too! Lisa truesdell's memory keeping Monday videos were my absolute favourite! She explains so well why she picks certain products and why she places them where.

I would also love to see a more positive community. While I definitely appreciate there are many different scrapping styles and think people should express their differing views, there is always a better way to say "product vomit". We all love the way we scrap and I think there is a respectful way to express our differing views.

I personally love product vomit and one photo layouts, so I hope to see more of that in 2013!

Less purging in 2013 too! Keep all the product you want ladies! If you have the room for it, buy it and keep it. As long as you can find what you need, you're good!

And don't stop scrapping ladies. Even if it's been years or if you don't think anyone will want your albums 30 years from now, if you love scrapping, keep doing it!

Great question Fevvers. And wonderful responses from everyone - made me think more about what I've come to really like in sbing this past year. While I seldom do one-photo pages, I do enjoy looking at those l/o's to see how the photo is showcased.
I don't usually use lots of emb. on my l/o's but have become a little more comfortable with adding more stuff and layering thanks to the Garden Girls, the gallery, and of course Glitter Girl. Want more of Memory Mondays and GG for sure.
And I'm going to try to become better about leaving more comments in the gallery (and finding more time to browse there); I think sometimes I don't leave a comment becoz' someone else has already said what I was thinking or my mind just draws a blank (someday you young'uns will be my age!).
And maybe more organizing ideas. I might as well admit that I'll never be totally organized, but maybe a few little things at a time. When crisann hosted one of the org. challenges I did get a lot done and it still works for me, but I need to work on a few things. Paper,paper,paper....
Let's hope this is a great year for 2Peas and everyone here. Maria

Scrapping with vintage childhood and/or heritage photos

THIS! THIS! THIS! THIS! THIS! THIS! THIS!

I have tons of very old photos and would love to do a heritage album with lots of period appropriate embellies.

If I scrap nothing else in my life, this type of album would make it all worthwhile.

Just thought of something else I'd like to see: give three GGs the same three products or color combo. Then compare the LOs they come up with to see the differences in who used what color as the base and how the papers and embellies reinforces the theme or photos.

Of course, letting comments count toward post count in the Gallery would probably increase the amount of pea praise left. I'm so glad for the amount of posting in the Gallery. I look thru it every day without fail, but it saddens me when I see a great project with little or no love on it. I do like the most bookmarked, most views, etc.

I also like "What the Peanut ordered" videos: would love to see the Peanut post what she created with her goodies. I'm not sure how that level of interactivity could happen but it would be great if it did.
