Found TWO petitions to stop the automatic raises for Congress!

petitions.whitehouse.gov: Cease paychecks and health benefits to ALL members of Congress and the President until the fiscal cliff is avoided

petition2congress.com: Congressional Reform Act of 2012

----------------------------------------
Government workers got one too, and I don't think that is necessarily a bad thing...but Congress??! That loathsome, small-minded lot of unconscionably obtuse degenerates should not be getting a raise, even if it is only $900 a year.

WeeklyStandard.com: Obama Orders Pay Raise for Biden, Members of Congress, Federal Workers

President Barack Obama issued an executive order to end the pay freeze on federal employees, in effect giving some federal workers a raise. One federal worker now to receive a pay increase is Vice President Joe Biden.

According to disclosure forms, Biden made a cool $225,521 last year. After the pay increase, he'll now make $231,900 per year.

Members of Congress, from the House and Senate, also will receive a little bump, as their annual salary will go from $174,000 to 174,900. Leadership in Congress, including the speaker of the House, will likewise get an increase.

one is supposed to get a pay raise for doing a GOOD job.... not being useless, partisan and selfish.

This fed household didn't get a raise.

However, I can't say that I'm terribly offended by the salary of either Congress or the VP. A project manager or program director in a federal agency usually makes more than that, and for a heck of a lot less responsibility than, you know, running the whole country. I don't like what Congress is doing right now, but I am hardly blown away by that salary.

NB: I'd probably sacrifice an arm to make $175k a year. Point remains.

I don't think they deserve a raise, and none of them should get paid until they pass a damned budget. Both parties are being idiots at this point. Get it done.

That should not be happening! On a whole, they have done nothing to earn what they are getting now, let alone deserve a raise!!!

Hmmm... that's not that much of a bump. I can't really be bothered to be upset about that at all.

My DH works for the local Housing Authority and they've had a pay freeze since he started there 3 years ago. Maybe this is a sign that things will turn around for him too. And please know, he's not making bank by any means. He makes 1/2 what I make, so an increase is not only deserved (for his hard work), but just the right thing to do. They pay him a pittance compared to what he deserves, but he's happy there. It would just be nice if he was better compensated.

I am supportive of the rank and file federal employees getting a small bump.

I think the raise for Congress and Biden, as small as it is, is in EXTREMELY poor taste. It almost smacks of "Let them eat cake" to me.

I hope every single Congressman turns it down. It isn't about the money, it's about the symbol. What was Obama thinking? Did he HAVE to extend it to Congress and Biden for it to be able to go through for the rank and file?

Wow, news to me!

And FWIW, I think that all federal executives are capped at what congress makes. That's why there is "pay compression" at the higher grades. But they can receive performance related bonuses that are not part of the cap.

Do not even get me started. I absolutely believe Congressmen, on both sides of the aisle, are some of the biggest criminals in the country when it comes to insider trading. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. It makes me sick. They've made legal for themselves what is illegal for others. 60 Minutes on Congressional Insider Trading

It's the principle of the matter. These irredeemably amoral pick pockets are driving the country down with their inability to work not just together, but at all! Their complete and total lack of functionality for the betterment of the country is unpardonable.

I don't care if it's a $1 raise...it's too much when all we get for that money is a further breaking down of our nation.

You may have. The executive order ended the pay freeze for all federal employees. After March 2013, federal employees salaries are supposed to go up .5-1%. It's not just the VP and Congress who got raises.

This article has a link to the actual order. It has lists of what each level of employee will be making after March 27, 2013. It includes pay raises for general employees, enlisted persons, uniformed employees, congress, judges, and other federal executives.

Unless it is a cost-of-living raise, it should be tied to performance. And WE the voters should get to decide whether they have earned a merit raise or not.

It would be really awesome if I could decide to give myself a raise, and all I had to do was get enough of my co-workers to agree to it, by-passing any kind of review process.

No one bothered to point out that this was an executive order. I can't blame Congress. This was Obama's slap in the face to all of us. And yes, it stinks of "let them eat cake".

I want to see the spin on this one.

I just don't agree with this. At all. This is like my DD who "treats" herself to Starbucks coffee because that $5 isn't enough to pay any of her bills. she refuses to see that even a small amount can add up over multiple instances. Just like a small 0.5% raise for so many people really adds up.

I wish they'd put it towards the deficit. But the fact is that they'd just spend it on something else.

For the performance they have given thus far they don't deserve a raise.

This is akin to giving stimulus money out and executives giving themselves bonuses. It is wrong and disgusting. The American people deserve better.

It is hoped that your raise will appear by March of this next year.

Let me clarify: I do not think Congress has performed to any good standard for them to receive a raise of any kind.

Government workers, on the other hand, who have been on a wage-freeze for the last three years, understandably should have a raise - I don't mind that in the least.

However, all raises should be tied to performance...just like mine are. Perform admirably, get a good raise. Perform like shit, well...see my point?

That one is a given - it will go up 2.5% for everyone, and they aren't arguing over that one. Just wait to see how it affects his check if they don't get these current tax credits figured out - the 'fiscal cliff.'

I don't have a problem with the everyday workers getting a raise. But I can't believe we're giving raises to Congress or the VP - they are all a mess right now, regardless of political party. And the timing is almost laughable it's so bad.

Of course. Our taxes are going up. Mental health field is getting their reimbursement rates majorly cut. But they get a raise maybe they should have put that off until they figured the whole mess out with the fiscal cliff...I mean, they're running out of time on that one, so they shouldn't have time to sit around figuring out how much of a raise they should be getting.
