Ribbon used to be the hot hot item, it seems to have been replaced with washi tape.
Do you think because sometimes it was difficult to adhere, especially on cards?
I know I have enough for my daughter to wear a different one for years, too bad she is grown up and doesn't use any.

I sometime wish ribbon wasn't so "out" because I literally have over 100 rolls from all through the years! Thankfully though my daughter is only 2 so I can still use it to make pretty hair bows! But I love washi tape and wouldn't wanna trade it for ribbon it's so much easier to use lol

I didn't even realise that ribbon was 'out' but now that I think about it I haven't seen that much of it lately. I loved it for cards but I just got out of the habbit of using it (and luckily used up most of the ribbon I had and am now having trouble finding ribbon to match my projects)

I don't think ribbon has to be "out" if you like it. Man is the washi easier though and flatter. I love texture but I hate bulky pages because I have so many albums and not lots of room.

I heard or read some where that washi tape is much cheaper to produce than ribbon. Maybe thats why we see so much of the washi tape now.

My poor ribbon sits unloved in the corner of my scrap room. I get rid of some every time I purge but I can't seem to just dump it all.

I'm with the washi is easier (except for bows!). Plus, for me, I feel like washi is more boy friendly than ribbon. Even if it's a pink/black pattern it doesn't look as girly as ribbon.

Yes, I can spell. No, my Kindle can't.
Just my humble opinion. And no, I wasn't being mean.

I think that ribbon adds a little too much bulk at times.

I don't like patterned ribbons with fantasy patterns like hearts, flowers with lots of differents colors, but I still love my classics ones, especially the polka ones, and I wish I have more ledger ones !

In or out I use it anyway! Sometimes the ribbon is what makes the card or layout or whatever!

I have a ton of ribbon but don't use it as much as I use to or need to. I did use a little on a layout yesterday.

Prefer ribbon over washi anytime because of the extra texture it adds to the layout. It's versatile too, you could make bows or flowers if you want.

Washi is nice too, but ribbon!

Washi tape IS so much easier if you just want the flat look, but ribbon can be I think there are uses for both.

I personally like it because it adheres easier. I rarely used it when it was at its height because of that. I also like that washi is translucent.

I think they both have their place, though ribbon does seem to be quieter at the moment. Tying washi would just be a huge mess, lol.

I still use ribbon and twine as well. Just haven't really made the transition to washi. I don't have a huge amount of ribbon, but I am a lot more into using my stash and scrapping "my way" nowadays, so I am okay with my pages not being "in".

I buy less ribbon...because my stash is big...but it's still gorgeous.
I am especially drawn to the AC ribbons coming with Amy Tan's new line. The colours and graphics are awesome! But it is a lot in a package...

I have lots of ribbon, but never really used it. It felt a waste to use it in strips across a whole page, but then with washi this seems acceptable to me?! I guess because washi gives you so much on a roll I use it more freely, whereas ribbon always had a more "special" feel to it. I would like to use up some of my old ribbon, maybe I'll hunt down some tips...

I do use it, just not as much as I would like. I like looking at it more I think!

I am using a lot of both ribbon and washi on my christmas layouts.

One look I really like at the moment is a line of washi, with a piece of ribbon overlapping it slightly to create a border.

I think ribbon is a classic staple, & there are things you can do with it that washi just won't handle, such as belly bands in a mini album.

Love washi for its sheerness & flatness, though.

Suddenly I feel as if you're asking me to choose which of my children I like better!

I do like washi for patterns, but I am still quite fond of "basics" when it comes to ribbon.

That being said I rarely use my ribbon, so I think I may need to focus on stashbusting it down a bit!

I love ribbon. Really like the AC ribbon. Just reorganized and saw how much of it I have! I just don't like the washi tape. I had some years ago, and ended up giving it away.

I still love and use both. Ribbon always seems dressier, and maybe more girly to me, so don't use it on my boy pages as often as girl. I have never had a problem adhering it since I got my ATG - that works like a charm for ribbon!

I'm a fan of 'remembering' when it comes to what was 'strong' back 'when'. But...

Never was & (hopefully) never will fall prey to the concept of any material being an 'either or'.

Washi tape is an interesting material, but ribbon (woven & non-woven) remains a strong component in my crafting stash.

Far as adhesives go? Lots of old & new ones allow me employ ribbon & paper tape on my projects.

I like washi tape and ribbon. Ribbon can be a pain. But adds texture you can't get with washi.
But I do my washi.

i do think washi has caught on so well because the ease of use.. I always bought the cute ribbons but found it hard to use since you had to figure out how to get to stay on the page. I still use my ribbon I am one who is trying to use up some of the stash this year!

I still have lots of ribbons but did not go crazy with it because I have 3 boys. Hard to work it into LOs with boys. I tended to hoard some of them because they were too pretty to use. I still use them on cards though. I learned my lesson with ribbon and did not go crazy of washi tapes. I have about 10 rolls.

Agreed. Ribbon has it's perks but when the ribbon available at this CHA comes in 24 packs it's a bit unrealistic that I'm going to get any. 24 is just a bit over the top
