I was looking for something in my scraproom and came across an envelope. Inside was all kinds of things about my mom, she passed away 12 years ago tomorrow. I have never seen this before. The most wonderful, and tear inducing, was a little tiny notebook(marked 5 cents). Written inside was a diary of sorts from her 17th birthday(my dad was 16), August 19, 1953 to February 20, 1954(their 11 month anniversary of going steady!). It is written in her perfect, tiny little handwriting. In pencil!

She calls him Dickie!

She tells about meeting his family for the first time. She "liked them loads. They were really swell.!

She mentions the "shows" they went to see: "How to Marry a Millionaire", "Crazy Legs", "Money From Home".

Where they went to get cokes!

They found a newborn calf on his parent's farm and named it Vicky.

The most touching part of all...she writes "I shall love Dick until the day I die. Then I shall carry the memory of him to heaven". Written by a 17 year old about her first and only boyfriend. They were married for 44 1/2 years. When she died, part of him did, too.

I have several journals that were hers. She had an amazing talent for words. I can hear her saying the words as I read them. I don't know how I never saw this little notebook before. Maybe it was just witing to be found today. I have been missing even more than normal, although I didn't know that was even possible, lately.

I have been so sick and so stressed that I have been wishing for one more mother/daughter talk. Maybe this was it, in a different fashion.

That is a beautiful, wonderful thing to have found. And I honestly believe that she KNEW you were missing her especially bad right now and "nudged" you in just the right direction to find that notebook.

May it bring you a bit of peace.

What an amazing find.

It really speaks volumes not only about her and your dad but about young people and love. Sometimes even teens know when a thing is right and some people are lucky enough to find their true love at a young age.

I can't decide if I want to tell my dad or not. He is a very emotional guy with a heart of gold and I'm thinking this might be to much for him to hear right now. I'm going to call my sister that lives in the same city he does in FL and see what she thinks.

I think I am going to buy some kind of a table top shadow bos to put this and a few of her things in. I don't want to put it in a frame on the wall, because I want my family to be able to hold it and read it.

They have us 3 daughters and 3 wonderful son in laws. 5 grandkids(two are married) and 4 great grandkids with a 5th on the way. Mom would be so proud of her family and all of these wonderful grandkids!

Truly a treasure! And how sweet that it turned up just before the anniversary of her death.

My mom died the day before Mothers' Day, and in 2009, when my son was away from home getting some training, he found a photo of my Mom on a wall there. She had been there many years before. So he took a photo of the photo and emailed it to me, asking if it was his Grandma, just a few days before Mothers' Day that year. It was indeed her, and it meant the world to me and was the best Mothers' Day gift I ever got.

I can imagine just how precious your new found treasure is to you! That is so awesome!
