So the stories you see in the news...well it happened to us...I am thankful that my mom and I were not hurt...but still traumatized at how people react for no apparent reason...

My mom and I were driving to get our hair done...we were driving and talking and not paying attention to much (my street is 25 miles an hour it is a residential street) out of nowhere this car starts honking at us and just driving up to my bumper..

It all happened within street is just a two lane street...

So she all of the sudden passes me and almost hits a mailbox and literally slams on the brakes...I almost rear ended her...

She gets out of the car and starts yelling that I was going slow...she lunges at my car door (thank god it was locked) and starts banging on my windshield...

My mom is yelling back up...I FROZE...out of anger she rips my windshield wiper (or because shes craazy) and then at that point I literally backed up and then put the car in park and drove off...

My mom is calling the police and she is following me....OMG! I thought she had a gun...(irrational becuase she would have already used it on us)...

So I had the sense to turn and then drive around while we call the then when I think she has passed us I return to my house...this happened around the block from my house...

Well as we are on the phone she drives by my house as we are calling at that point I am almost yelling she is driving by my house...

The police comes (and I swear I have the tags memorized) but the colors of the cars don't match and its registered to a male in another city out of his jurisdiction...

In the end the police didn't do anything just file a report...

I have to say that I am traumatized...she didn't like that I wasn't speeding...??? I am just still shocked and in a state of fog...who does stuff like that?

I just don't get people....I wish I would have reacted...maybe backed up quicker...or taken out my phone and taken an picture...what if she had a gun? I can't seem to rest...I even called ADT and made sure the alarm was working...

Sorry to over share....but I am besides myself...what if something would have happened to my mom!!

I don't want to frighten you more but be sure to check outside before walking out your door for a while. Some people just make no sense whatsoever. It's honestly a scary time we are living in. I hope things settle down for you and you can move past this nut. Prayers sent your way!!

That sounds truly scary. I'd be scared she will return to your house.

A couple of years ago a guy in Denver did pretty much the same thing, but at faster speeds. He went around a car, cut them off, and slammed on his brakes. The car rear-ended him and the people in that car died. He was convicted of murder and sentenced to two consecutive life sentences.

There have also been multiple shootings over road rage.

I am really glad you weren't hurt. I was going to say I'm glad you are okay, but clearly you are not and I don't blame you at all.

Even in a scenario where I don't give you the benefit of the doubt and figure this person was mad because you were visiting and not focusing on the road or whatever she might have thought was happening, this is absolutely extreme and insane behavior. The perfect time to not be speeding is in a residential area. If I was behind you and you were going 15, I might have been annoyed, but not angry and certainly not anything like what this woman was.

I'd be questioning her mental stability which would have me quite scared as well. I'm so sorry you are dealing with this. I hope it's a distant memory soon and that you don't have anymore issues with her.

Will be thinking of you!

Glad you are safe! Do you think she knows that was your house, or could it have looked like you just stopped in someone's driveway to get away from her?

My friend had a scary road rage story, too. It is amazing what little things can set some people off.

Kathy-- I totally get what your saying.

But I don't speed on my street. I make it a point--- kids always running out etc.

It's just not rational behavior. I understand your opinion.

I hope she thinks I just pulled in to get away.

The only point that I feel might help me is that at the point when I pulled in my driveway my mom and dad had driven separately, my dad was going to hang out with my husband, then my father in law had stopped by to visit. So in my driveway we had 5 cars.

I pray she isn't that bright and figures I was just stopping to get help. ??? I pray.

Someone from my hometown had road rage and caused a wreck that killed a father and injured the mother and two children.

road rage article

She was charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, rightfully so. I'm still sad every time I think about it.

So glad you're okay! Sorry that happened to you!

Glad you and your mum are ok after that! Some people are just crazy so be careful coming and going from your house for a little bit. I can't imagine how frightening that was. Why does it matter that the owner lives out of their jurisdiction when it happened in theirs? Can't they get the proper people involved if they aren't able to address the problem driver? Either the car was being driven with the knowledge of the owner (he'd know who had it) or it was a stolen vehicle. If it wasn't stolen, why can't they hold someone responsible? I don't really understand the jurisdiction thing - surely someone can investigate it? Time to get these nuts off the road.

Your story reminds me of a recent road rage issue in my area that made TV here. The guy had a camera in his car and they were able to apprehend the culprit. He's been charged and many other people have come forward with similar stories about this driver. The funniest thing about it is that he said the video is a fake.

So very sorry you have had this experience. Please be aware of what is going on in your neighborhood for a while.

Just a suggestion to all: whenever you find yourself is a similar situation, for safety, do not drive to your home. Go to a well populated area while calling for help. This is also the case even if you only think someone is following you at any time.

Before I moved there was a road rage incident, it ended up closing down 2 cities. Two cars were waiting to turn a busy corner at rush hour, the guy in the one behind got sick of waiting so he got out of his car and was abusing the driver in front. As he walked back to his car it go rear ended and he ended up crushed between the two cars and went to hospital with a crushed pelvis.

I don't understand why the police wouldn't do anything. You could recognize the person and had the plate number. Even if the person is in another city they should have been able to site her

This happened to me, almost the same exact thing, about 7 years ago. I apparently wasn't driving fast enough for the guy behind me, so he starts honking at me but I stop for a red light (maybe he wanted me to run the light? I don't know), but he gets out of the car and starts banging on my window like a crazy person. Luckily some people drove up and he got back in his car, but I can't believe people do stuff like this.

I'm glad you and your mom got away safe!

I'm sure you are scared. I'm glad you and your mom weren't hurt.

Several years ago my DH, DD and I were out on a Sunday looking at some houses for sale. We were in a residential area, but probably driving a little slower than usual. This guy on a motorcycle pulled right up on us and stayed right behind us. We pulled onto the highway and as he pulled up next to us he was pointing a gun at my DH. I have never been so scared in my life.

I saw a whole dateline report about this once. There was a sweet white woman in her 40s who was a victim of road rage. A single mother followed her along the highway, then on an exit ramp where they were stalled the other woman got out of her car and knocked on her window. The woman panicked and took out her gun and shot her, and killed her. When the media painted a picture of the 2 of them the woman with gun had dozens of friends that came to court to support her, she came off as really nice and the other woman troubled, but she still went to prison. However if you kill someone while texting and driving, you won't get any jail time.

You make sure you follow up with the police. Don't let them pass you off. This is how these nutcases get away with it.

Oh and if you ever feel like something like that is going to happen again, grab your phone, or have a passenger grab their phone and start recording.

And not that I am blaming you at all for this...ever, but you admitted you weren't paying attention. Please, when driving, paying attention should be your top priority.

Sorry you had to deal with this today. Hopefully she'll simmer down and realise she was behaving irrationally and maybe even have some remorse.

Im glad you are both safe, it must have been terrifying. One good piece of advice I heard on TV many years a go (from a cop) is that, if you are the victim of road rage, or know you're being followed by someone, don't go home. The need to get to familiar. safe territory is strong, but the last thing you want is for some whacko to know where you live. You should go to the nearest police station if you know where it is, or to a populated place like a service station, supermarket etc. Crazies are less likely to do something in a public place.

I wonder what people like her feel like after they've calmed down. Do they feel remorse? Do they feel like a total moron? Or do they justify their actions in their own mind so they don't have to feel guilty\stupid?

I am glad you are OK. How terrifying!

It sounds like the plates and car don't match so they can't track her down, is that correct?

How terrible too that these stories involve lots of women as the ones losing it!
