Here is one reason I am glad the Patriots lost.

New England coach Bill Belichick doesn't handle losing all too well, and he blew off CBS' customary postgame interview with the coach of the losing team after the AFC championship game.

CBS analyst Shannon Sharpe wasn't impressed and called him out for it with some harsh comments.

"There's something to be said about being gracious in defeat," Sharpe said on CBS' postgame show. "We've seen the New England Patriots five times in the last 12 years be victorious [in the AFC championship game). We've seen the opposing coaches who lost come out and talk to our Steve Tasker. Coach [Bill] Cowher did it when they lost to them, we saw this last week.

"Bill Belichick makes it real easy for you to root against the Patriots. You can't be a poor sport all the time. You're not going to win all the time, and he does this every time he loses. It's unacceptable."

Honestly he is 90% of the reason I root against the Patriots and the other 10% is their very good but pouty quarterback.

I heard this from one of the 12 televisions in our home tuned to sports yesterday. I had to ask who Bill Belichick was, but otherwise, I totally agree.

My son actually played in a baseball tournament against a coach who must have modeled his behavior after this guy. After we beat them in the championship game, when the teams normally line up to wish each other good game, he walked off the field and instructed his team to follow.

I was embarrassed for him.

Well, I always felt the losing coach interview after a key game like a division playoff is pretty sadistic. "Why do you think you lost? What went wrong?" "Well, we sucked today. We can't hold onto the ball or chase down the other guys" (oh, wait, that was the Broncos last week - didn't watch enough of the Patriots game last night to make that call, sorry! )

That said, it is traditional, and these are adults, and yes, he needs to be a good sport and play the aftergame better than they played the actual game.

So true! As many times as he's won that particular game and done the winning coach's interview, he should be gracious enough to do the losing coach's interview. Although, no one has ever lauded him for being gracious in losing.

On a side note, I'm also wondering who Mrs. Tom Brady will throw under the bus for this loss!

A true Patriots fan would never say that.

And,
FYI--

On a side note, I'm also wondering who Mrs. Tom Brady will throw under the bus for this loss!

Tom Brady, one the best Quarterbacks of all time, has already said they didn't deserve to win, because of the way they played. But you don't want to hear that, do you? Neither do any of the other Pats haters.

ETA, just noticed you said Mrs. Brady - really doesn't matter what she says. She's not on the team, is she?

At least the Pats made it as far as they did. Can you all say that about your teams (unless, of course, you are the Ravens or 49ers)??

ETA - you edited your post. The Pats may have played like crap, but a true fan would never root for the the team that beat them to win the big one.

Wait, a Pats fan can't say they didn't deserve to win, but Tom Brady can? Something does not compute. . .

And I can say that my team made it a bit farther. And it feels pretty darn good too.

She's alluding to Giselle's comments blaming everybody but her husband a couple of years ago.

The Pats played terrible, deserved to lose and their coach is a poor loser. Shannon Sharpe said it best.

And you ABSOLUTELY can root for the team that beat you.

And YES, I can say that. I'm a die hard Atlanta Falcons fan who was in the dome cheering my team on until my voice is hoarse today. They let the 49ers come back and beat them. I'm sad for my team, but now I hope San Francisco wins the Super Bowl, so 'my team' can say they lost to the BEST team in the NFL.

I'm a Steelers fan. If they play poorly in a key game, I definitely can graciously hand it to the winning team.

I was even cheering for the Ravens last night since the Pats have had their chances and it's nice to see some other teams at the big show for a change.

I was going to post but decided I don't feel like getting ripped to shreds by the Patriot police...especially since my teams are out for the year.

Geez Louise you would think we were bashing Obama with the defensiveness going on in this thread. FTR...I am joking around with that comment.

The crazy, die-hard Philadelphia sports fans who live in my house always say you want to say you got beaten by a winner, not the loser. Of course, that goes out the window if it's the Stinkin' Giants or the Cowboys. Then all bets are off.

They just say that the Steelers have been there so many times, it was time to let someone else have a chance.

I don't follow football so had no idea Belicheck was such a poor loser.

Exactly, it's ok to acknowledge that your team played poorly and the other team deserved to win.

I am with Kelli too, I wanted the team that beat us to go all the way for the same reason, I wanted to say we lost to the best team. But that didn't happen this year

My comment was based on her whining after last year's Superbowl loss. She blamed the receivers for not catching the ball that her husband threw.

Not this year. But we do have more Superbowl wins than the Patriots. And we won them without cheating.

Another Steelers fan here. Bill Belicheck and Tom Brady are the biggest reasons why I cannot stand the Pats and glad they lost and then to hear of Bill B's behavior after the loss? Good for Shannon Sharpe to call him out on it!!

They all earn way too much money to have pouty ugly behavior. So what if it's a bit sadistic to talk to the losing coach? If I got paid that much money, I'd talk to anyone who wanted to talk to me!

I've been a Steelers fan since Terry Bradshaw was playing and I agree with the fans in your house, Writermom!! LOL (I know the Steel Curtain had some injuries, but the rest of the team just didn't bring it.)

I didn't have a dog in the playoff fight, but I pulled for the Ravens, as I was a house guest of my Raven loving SIL and BIL this weekend! Even so, I wouldn't pull for the Patriots simple because of the coach. And Tom Brady is good but he's just not all that to me.

I know that what the coaches wear shouldn't matter to me, but Belichick's hoodies with the cut-off sleeves really rub me the wrong way.

Oh, I definitely agree he needs to suck it up and behave like an adult. I just think the whole "ask the guy whose team just lost why he thinks that happened and how he feels about it" to be an incredibly stupid and obnoxious tradition.

This is exactly why I hate the Patriots, because of their a..hole , cheating coach and their pouty QB. I'm not a RAvens fan either because of Ray Lewis, but I'd rather see them then the Pats. Plus since they beat my team (the Broncos) I can justify and say we were beaten by a better team.
