I don't see the problem. I would not have thought they were living in a tiny studio apartment or something. And it's very nice but not outrageous for a couple with their income IMO.
Of course it's totally not my style so that helps me think it's not all that crazy lol.

I'm confused what did she do wrong? I'm surprised that building has so much outdoor space on the top level, really amazing! But I do think the indoor space seemed too narrow for a celebrity. Loved all the red! I kind of pictured her living somewhere bigger but I guess she has to live in the city.
What I've always wondered about is that it seems like celebs are always moving. Do they view their houses as just financial investments? Renovate then the property value is increased because of their name. Or is it easier for them to just pick up and move when they are bored because they don't pack or anything. lol |

I don't think it's that she did anything wrong, but that it's hard to relate to her as "everywoman" when she lives in a $25 million penthouse. |

I guess it depends on your definition of normal. It's certainly "normal" for a celebrity to live well. It's not like she goes around flaunting what she has and you don't. I don't think it's that she did anything wrong, but that it's hard to relate to her as "everywoman" when she lives in a $25 million penthouse.
I'd have a hard time relating to a celebrity as an "everywoman" anyway - she's not, she's a celebrity, living like a celebrity would. Like you or I would if we were celebrities.

I've always liked her ever since I went on a jeep tour in Sedona, AZ. The jeep driver was talking about Kelly and her husband and being the driver for a tour they took. He related that Kelly was exceptionally nice and that impressed me. Some celebrities aren't so nice to the workers and anyone who goes out of there way for someone who serves them is alright in my books.

That's the way I see it. To me, this doesn't make her "untouchable" or "unrelatable" or whatever. It's just nice. Like, oh, that's nice she's doing so well! Good for her!
I don't think it makes her different from us. Just currently more successful. I find that achievable. I'm just not there yet.

it bothers me when celebrities pretend to be like normal people.
And I see the opposite sign of this. I have a friend who is a very recognizable celebrity, and all she wants is to be able to do normal things. She can't even go to the store but for the damn photographers. People take pictures of her little boy, try to get close and flashbulbs popping with the kid crying, the whole works. Sure, the money is nice, but I would not want to have a life where you cannot even go to exercise class without some damn paparazzi following you. |

She is successful, works hard, has a nice life. But I am sure she has joy and sorrow in her life just like everyone else - the real kind, not pretend.

I am not understanding how Kelly Ripa putting a home up for sale means that she is pretending to be like "normal people."
Yes, that home is amazing and far beyond anything I will ever be able to afford in this lifetime, but that's the lifestyle she lives.
I guess i might understand your point more if she were on TV, grousing about her problems and saying she was having trouble making ends meet.

She's not an everyday woman, she's a size 0. She's been on this talk show for 11 years and her annual salary is $20 million. She had to come back to work almost the day after having her 2nd baby probably for fear of losing her job. Only after the 3rd baby was she comfortable taking maternity leave.
To me big stars are 1) singers 2) movie stars and 3) lower category are television personalities. She's well known but not a big star. She's worked hard, she used to do back to back 2 shows a day, starting her day early in the morning. Her work is her "personality". I think it's much easier to be an actor. |

Because she owns an expensive home in NYC she is not normal? What about everybody else who lives in that building? Are they abnormal people too who shouldn't be pretending they are normal?
Just because someone earns a lot of money at their job and/or does it in the public eye, don't you think they can't just be a regular family behind closed doors? I'm sure her kids get the stomach flu and she's had a family member die of cancer and once in a while gets a flat tire. Her kids probably forget to bring their homework home, too. None of those things can be avoided just because you make a lot of money at your chosen job.

So you'd prefer she brag about everything and basically act like a hoity-toity snob? Would that really be better? She seems like a normal person who had worked hard and between that and a good dose of luck, has been very financially successful. I don't understand begrudging someone their success.

I like it but not for that price. It is exactly as I picture a celebrity living so I don't know what the issue is there.
I don't understand a big screen outside in the elements where it rains and snows and over a hot tub. That looks scary. lol (yes I have seen tv's over hot tubs but not usually directly over them if they were to fall) |

I think this is a "can't win for losing" situation. If Kelly Ripa was on TV regularly crowing about the luxury her career affords her she'd be dismissed as a big jerk. If she isn't she's "lying?"
I think it's refreshing when wealthy celebrities remain grounded enough to understand that not everyone they interact with has the financial freedom they do. |

I do not get what is abnormal about her. Does she stop being normal because of the price of her house? Or is it because she works hard? So is the opposite of that also abnormal? Talk about generalizations and drawing conclusions simply based on her house. Going to need to keep this thread.

I think it is beautiful. I think she is a normal person with her kind of wealth to have a home like that. But it is staged for the pictures. I am sure with 3 kids it is not always so clean with no clutter. I am sure backpacks and papers on the kitchen table are the norm.

Kelly Ripa spends her summers in my neck of the woods.
She's well regarded as one of the more down to earth, laid back, polite celebrities that invade our community each summer. Heck, they even go to CHURCH when they are out here. They attend my best friend's church.
I don't watch her show, and I didn't even bother to look at the link to her NYC apt.
Just wanted to say that there are much more *worthy* celebrities to gear your angst at. She's a good egg.

I wouldn't hold her wealth against her, at all. I used to adore her when she began on Regis' show. You could see the progession of her personality change though, and that's when I stopped watching. She seems to be shallow and she associates with disgusting people now. I have ZERO respect for her anymore.
I could see that her whole gig is to sell her wholesome, relatable personality, but I don't see that in her anymore. Bleh! |
